The Minnesota Lynx had one of the toughest challenges in its quest for dominance in the 2025 regular season. The New York Liberty, on a three-game winning run, was looking to put an end to the Lynx’s surge. But the visitors thrived at the Barclays Center, putting up a clinical performance to clinch an 81-73 victory. This was an impressive win for them, especially without Napheesa Collier.
One player who was not happy with the loss was Emma Meesseman. The Belgian star had some strong words for the loss, which could have been an eye-opener for her side before the playoffs.
Emma Meesseman Reflects On Loss Against Lynx
The rivalry week had its biggest fixture—the New York Liberty vs. the Minnesota Lynx. The two top sides, 2024 finalists, had been in great form this season, with the Lynx just edging out the defending champions with some consistency.
The absence of Collier and Breanna Stewart evened the teams in the matchup, and fans at the Barclays Center were in for a treat. But instead of watching the home side dominate the proceedings, they were chasing the league leaders throughout the game. A poor second-half performance handed the Liberty an eight-point loss, which was avoidable given the team’s midseason acquisition.
“The ones that definitely could be avoided were just, again, attention to detail — pass to the open side — or we were not always on the same page. It’s fundamentals, really. Maybe it’s not bad to just get back to the basics and how you learn as a kid,” Emma Meesseman told the media.

She scored 11 points in the game and had five rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes. But 18 turnovers and just four fastbreak points hurt the team’s chances in the game. The Lynx now holds the top position and probably has a home-court advantage in the playoffs (if they stay on top).

New York Liberty Responded To Emma Meesseman’s Call
The team had a chance in two days to showcase its capability on the floor once again. Visiting the Los Angeles Sparks’ arena for game number 32 of the season, they controlled the floor.

Earlier in the season, the Sparks recorded a famous win behind Rickea Jackson’s game-winner. In the rematch, the NY side left no chance to their opponents and had a 105-97 win. Ironically, this is their highest total in the 2025 season with only eight players in the rotation.
Meesseman led the charge with 24 points, with every other Liberty starter scoring in double figures. Sabrina Ionescu turned to the playmaker position and controlled the game. Turnovers were down to eleven, and shooting improved to 56% compared to the game against the Lynx. It seems that the 2029 finals MVP succeeded in keeping things under control for the Liberty.
The side will now be in second position, and without Stewart in the lineup, they need to dig deep for similar performances on a nightly basis.
