The WNBA All-Star was supposed to be a night of fun and frolic for the players. It was also perceived as a major step towards establishing the league as one of the major ones in the business. And as Team Clark and Team Colliers locked horns, sparks flew in the middle of the hardwood. But all was not well in the hoops territory.
Analysing the game at halftime, Elle Duncan of ESPN had quite an interesting, rather controversial take to share. Pointing out the lack of defense in the game, Duncan urged the players to get a lot more competitive as the game progressed. Well, this was enough to land Duncan amidst hot waters. And the online fans didn’t mince words.
WNBA Fans Give It Back To Elle Duncan For Controversial Comments
Elle Duncan was courtside with Chiney Ogwumike. Analyzing the game, Duncan felt that the game lacked defense. At the halfway mark, Team Collier had 82 puts while that of Clark’s had 60. Such a stat prompted Duncan to lament about how the athletes were lacking defensive qualities.
“We hope it gets a little bit more competitive. Because like a girls’ trip to Cancun, right now, there’s no D,” said Duncan.

Now then, the WNBA world might be irked at Duncan. But the All-Star game did draw some negative reactions. And Paige Bueckers had a hilarious take on the same.
Paige Bueckers Channels Inner Geno Auriemma With Hilarious WNBA Four-Point Take
The WNBA All-Star game had a unique innovation. Just behind the three-point line, there were several circles. And what purpose did these circles serve? Well, if an athlete successfully made a basket from this point, she would be awarded four points. While this might sound interesting on paper, the execution drew a lot of flak. The WNBA stars were accused of trying to hit the four-pointers a bit too much. And when asked about the same to Paige Bueckers, she hilariously impersonated her ex-coach from the UConn Huskies, Geno Auriemma.

“Just completely awful. Disturbing demonstration of basketball on both ends of the floor,” Bueckers said. (via Emily Adams of Hartford Courant)
While this was a lighthearted banter, the criticisms are not stopping. Now, with fans’ backlash coming in, it remains to be seen what happens next.
