The WNBA Offseason brought in a different side of the athletes, as many succeeded in the fashion world, while some found interest in soccer. As for Sophie Cunningham, she remained the same ‘Sassy Sophie’ who spoke her heart out in interviews, podcasts, and even on the golf course.
Some hate her for her blunt takes, while some find it ‘realistic and true’ and love her for that. Though there are two different perceptions about her, she remains one of the most followed athletes in the league. Even so, the fans fake injuries for Cunningham’s hugs after a wild drive into the crowd at Annika Pro-Am. However, there were also instances of hate, as fans targeted the 2019 rookie for her comments about Cleveland as an expansion team.
However, her recent video might change that perception to some extent, as she spoke out for WNBA players to be judged by their on-court persona.
Fans show Love To Sophie Cunningham
The forward earned different nicknames – Sassy Sophie, Enforcer, and Firecracker for her fierce gameplay on the floor. However, according to the former Mercury star, every WNBA player does all the ‘dirty work’ to win at all costs, and fans should not judge them by their on-court actions but by their off-court persona.
Recently, Cunningham won over Indiana Fever fans for US foods charity dinner and she pointed out the same, saying, “I’m not just speaking for myself, I think I’m speaking on behalf probably the whole league; that when people see us competing, and trying to fight to do anything it takes to win, because this is hard, hard league, they automatically think that’s what you’re like off the court.”

Although the WNBA fans showered love on the former Missouri star, she dropped a bombshell, giving the green signal to the idea of joining Project B, the WNBA’s potential competitive league.
Sophie Cunningham Ready To Join Project B
The Project B signings so far have been a big shock for the WNBA fans. The topic had been red hot in the league with the CBA standoff casting uncertainty over the next season. When talking about the same, the forward did not hesitate and showed interest in joining the new league.
She said, “I don’t know too much about it. You know, you see stuff on social media, but I also know how social media goes. So, you got to take it with a grain of salt. But, you know, if people are going to be paying you multi-million-dollar deals, why would you not?”
