The WNBA and WNBPA meetings will take place over the next two days, aiming to resolve the ‘unfinished’ points and conclude the CBA before the deadline date. The WNBA insider claims that meetings might be a custom as both parties are far from a conclusion. WNBA CBA deadline looms as Cathy Engelbert and Napheesa Collier rift deepens amid revenue sharing clash.
According to a league insider, the talks are far from reaching a conclusion, which hints at a possible extension or even a lockout. However, WNBA fans view things differently now.
Fans Blame Napheesa Collier For The Delay
The WNBA action finished on October 11, as the Las Vegas Aces won the title with a clean sweep over the Phoenix Mercury. However, even before the LV side received its trophy, the CBA talks and their ‘unfinished situation’ were making headlines.
Napheesa Collier warned the WNBA Players against backing down from CBA negotiations and called for a firm stand on their demands. The 28-year-old player even took the initiative, criticizing the league leadership.

The reports are also not encouraging, as the league is expecting some extension. ESPN reports that the league has already proposed a 30-day extension to the CBS deadline.
WNBA Proposes 30-Day CBA Deadline Extension
While addressing Napheesa Collier’s criticism, Cathy Engelbert silently hinted at a possible extension. She mentioned that she will continue working with the league, despite rumors surrounding her possible departure, and noted that there is always a chance of an extension. Now, ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reports that the league is readying itself for an extended period.
Incidentally, this isn’t the first time anyone has proposed such an extension. Back in 2019, when they finalized the last CBA agreement, both sides agreed to a 60-day extension after the initial deadline expired.

Time is ticking for a resolution, one way or another, with Friday's deadline rapidly approachinghttps://t.co/J1qbZk9OiM
According to a league spokesperson, “The WNBA have been negotiating with the Players Association in good faith and with urgency for several months with the goal of finalizing a new collective bargaining agreement as quickly as possible.”
This could be a feasible solution for both parties to rethink and prepare proposals. However, according to the WNBPA, the association is not willing to modify its demands.
