Whenever the Brooklyn Nets’ superstar Michael Porter Jr is in front of the mic, he certainly makes the headlines with his bold claims and statements. In a recent podcast interview, his statements about WNBA players went viral, and interestingly, it explicitly included his friend Sophie Cunningham.
When the Fever star attended an NBA game between the Pacers and the Nets, she clicked a photo with the former NBA champion. Fans were gushing over a possible love interest between Cunningham and Michael Porter Jr. While those claims were false, fans are now investigating the former Nuggets star’s claims.

Fans React To Michael Porter Jr’s Claim About Beating Sophie Cunningham’s Team
Michael Porter Jr. spoke about a full-fledged game and mentioned that an 8th-grade team of future pros could likely beat a WNBA team, citing his experience playing against WNBA players like Cunningham when he was much younger.
“I’m probably going with 8th grade because I have real experience doing this. I played my sisters. They played at The University of Missouri and I was still a young kid. They had me playing on the scout team and they had a few WNBA players on their team like, Sophie Cunningham and a couple others. I was in the 7th or 8th grade going crazy,” the NBA star said.

The best way to end the confusion and confirm the reality of the fact was to get the opposition’s view, and in this case, it was the Fever forward.
Sophie Cunningham Provides An Explanation
The 29-year-old star never backs down from her views, comments, and even gives credit where it is due. So, when the topic came up in her Podcast, the player accepted the fact and provided an explanation.
She said, “This is my personal opinion. But if you are a professional football player, basketball player, really any sport… If you’re in that elite level group, yeah, you should be able to beat the girls. I’m not surprised by that. I just don’t get why it’s continuing to get brought up. If women are saying, ‘He couldn’t beat them,’ yeah, he could. Any NBA star could beat a female in high school.”
She added that men are more athletic, larger in size, and stronger than women in sports, and for the 8th-grader who is a probable future NBA star, beating the WNBA probable is normal. Cunningham also noted that this is not limited to basketball; it can occur in any sport.
While her nod to Michael Porter Jr.’s claim might come as a surprise for many, some could even target the versatile star. Recently, Sophie Cunningham explained what fans get wrong about WNBA players, which also provided a new perception to fans.
