The WNBA’s rise in closing the gap between them and the NBA. In 2025, the WNBA broke its two-decade-long regular season attendance record, highlighting its constant rise. Moreover, the WNBA sneakers are also entering the NBA.
In the middle of captivating sports of this, Netflix starts ‘Starting 5’ series for the NBA players, where it touches NBA’s biggest superstars as they compete throughout a thrilling, high-stakes season to win the title.
Fans Demand ‘Starting 5’ For WNBA
The Netflix started with a documentary series that gives a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of five NBA players throughout a season. It covers their on-court battles, off-court lives, and personal challenges. While the season 1 had many star players like Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, and Jayson Tatum during the 2023-2024 season, the league announced its second season with players like Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Haliburton, and James Harden.

The season 1 became hit and with the layers on the season 2 roster, many anticipate similar response for the season 2, starting form October 16.
But for WNBA’s hard-core fans, they want a similar series on WNBA stars. A post on ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter, provided the starting 5 lineup showing Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, A’ja Wilson, Paige Bueckers, and Napheesa Collier during the 2024-2025 season.

2) Angel would embrace it also
3) Kelsey Plum loves the camera
4) Stud Buds or Syd Colson for entertainment (I’d choose Syd)
5) Kah Copper or Kelsey Mitchell as a underrated vet who is elite
S/n I don’t think Caitlin would want to do it
Even though fans are looking forward to the Netflix series of WNBA’s ‘starting 5’ series, there is significant question on the upcoming season.
Clouds Over WNBA’s 2026 Season
The WNBA is reaching new highs, but there is a chance that the players will opt out of the 2026 season if the CBA discussions do not conclude. The relation between league authorities and players reached its ‘breaking point’ where the players do not trust the Commissioner Cathy Engelbert following Napheesa Collier’s fiery speech.
WNBA analyst hints Napheesa Collier “pushed the relationship beyond repair” after cancelling meeting with Cathy Engelbert. With the 2025 season ending on October 31, the fans and players are even more aggressive, pushing the league to agree to their demands. NBA’s Adam Silver is keeping faith in Cathy Engelbert to find the solution as early as possible, but as of now, there is no sign of 2026 WNBA season.
