After a historic 2025 WNBA season, A’ja Wilson rounded off the year by winning the AP Female Athlete of the Year accolade. Although this was her first such award, her incredible season garnered much praise from critics and fans.
While this was one side of the positive effects of her accomplishments, radio and TV presenter Craig Carton brought up another side, one that makes a mockery of individuals.

Fans Criticize Craig Carton For Comments On A’ja Wilson
‘The Breakfast Ball’ fame presenter was on The Craig Carton Show, where he addressed the Las Vegas Aces’ superstar’s current achievement. While the player had a historic season and deserved all the recognition, Carton made vivid claims and even mocked Wilson’s name as ‘Asia’ Wilson.
“I think they picked the wrong woman. … I had her third on my list. I would give her the bronze this year. … I would have said the two gals, athletes that I would have put ahead of A’ja Wilson, because I think their sport is more taxing on the body. I would have put Bonnie Blue and Lily Phillips on that list ahead of A’ja Wilson,” Carton said.
There is no justification for making such comments and ridiculing achievements. Fans were furious and reacted angrily to the social media post.

Ironically, Angel Reese also had a similar experience recently, where 6ix9ine tried to mock her game with a horrible layup. WNBA fans suggested that Reese sue 6ix9ine over his live-streaming act. But the player didn’t react to it. Similarly, Wilson also neglected Carton’s attempt and rather focused on her goal.
A’ja Wilson Eyeing Three-Peat After 2025 WNBA Championship
The 2025 WNBA championship elevated the Aces’ star among the game’s greats, and she was often compared to players like Michael Jordan and Bill Russell. Flattened by the comparison, the forward mentioned that it was an honor to be in the same sentence with those legends. However, she also made her mission clear: to win more championships and justify the comparisons.

In the recent interview, Wilson said, “I think I can do three more. That right there is everything I want (compared to MJ). Give me rings. Let me take the picture and really show off who I am. I don’t want to have to be somebody that’s like, ‘Yep, I’m A’ja Wilson, everybody.’ I could also hold this aura and impact where everyone’s like, ‘Oh no, that’s A’ja Wilson.’ And I don’t have to say a word.”
With the team around her, the player could well be on her way to a three-peat after missing the opportunity in 2024. These words could be a warning for the rest of the league, dreaming about dethroning the Aces from the top spot.
