It was all high and happy when A’ja Wilson won her record fourth WNBA MVP award on Sunday, until the real buzz turned into backlash when NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news first, again.
Fans didn’t hold back, flooding social media with gripes that LeBron James’ Klutch Sports Group had a hand in tipping him off, robbing WNBA beat reporters of a historic scoop. It’s a sore spot that’s been building, especially after Charania dropped last year’s MVP news too, leaving folks wondering why the league’s own voices keep getting sidelined.
WNBA Fans Call Out Klutch For Allegedly Leaking A’ja Wilson’s WNBA MVP
Even in her wildest dreams, the Las Vegas Aces’ veteran would not have wished for such a tyranny. However, it came at a time when Wilson passed a huge milestone to become the first WNBA player with four MVPs. However, the drama soon stole all the charm.
History all around: Wilson led the WNBA in points per game and blocks per game this season — and became the first player to average 20 points and 10 rebounds in multiple seasons in WNBA history. She also had 13 30-point games this season, the most ever in a WNBA campaign. https://t.co/TuAT6gdWKB

Shams Charania’s early Sunday tweet about Wilson’s win hit like a gut punch for many WNBA diehards, who saw it as another slight to the league’s dedicated reporters. However, Rachel A DeMita from Courtside first pointed it out with her bold tweet.
“No way you guys are mad at Shams for literally doing his job,” she wrote.

“Gotta talk to Klutch on this one. Shams had the unanimous a’ja MVP last year, the Jewell Loyd trade, and now this…,” another fan wrote.
Gotta talk to Klutch on this one. Shams had the unanimous a'ja MVP last year, the Jewell Loyd trade, and now this. The agents, teams, and wnba league office will fuss and complain about full time W reporters, but don't respect them enough to be considerate of them. Frustrating https://t.co/VZHwThellf

“I’m not going to be a hypocrite like yall. Yall wasn’t talking about Aja till August. I don’t believe recency bias should be a thing . And klutch sports (LeBron associate company ) is who leaked it to shams . Congrats to Aja tho,” another fan speculated.

However, the finger-pointing at Klutch Sports, founded by Rich Paul and home to LeBron since 2012, wasn’t isolated. Many folks tied it to a pattern, like Charania’s scoop on last year’s unanimous MVP for Wilson and the Jewell Loyd trade. The heat kept coming, with accusations flying that Charania’s basically in Klutch’s pocket.
Napheesa Collier Gave Tough Competition To A’ja Wilson In MVP Race
Despite all the drama, Wilson’s fourth MVP puts her alone atop the mountain, but it wasn’t a cakewalk. Napheesa Collier pushed her all the way, turning what could’ve been a runaway into a nail-biter that had folks debating until the end. Additionally, NBA superstar LeBron James had a unique way of wishing Wilson after the MVP nod.

The Lynx forward, a five-time All-Star and two-time All-WNBA pick, led Minnesota to the league’s best record and the No. 1 seed, making a rock-solid case for her first MVP.
She averaged 22.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks on 53.1% shooting, with a breakout 40.3% from three on 3.8 tries a game. The Lynx went 3-1 against top dogs like the Aces, Mercury, and Liberty, only dropping their series to the Dream 2-1, and Collier’s two-way play had them cruising to a 20-4 All-Star break mark.
A late ankle sprain sidelined her for 11 games, but she came back firing, positioning Minnesota as title favorites. Just imagine if that didn’t happen, the odds would have been slightly different. Just saying.
