The WNBA players are on the edge at the moment. With the October 31st deadline already expired, things are looking quite complicated as far as the CBA talks are concerned.
The WNBA has requested an extension on the deadline, but it still does not guarantee the athletes getting what they wanted. With names like Napheesa Collier urging her fellow mates not to back down, the threat of a work stoppage is looming large on the league.
Now then, to add fuel to the fire, LeBron James’ partner, Maverick Carter, has designed an alternative league for the players, Project B. And it has some interesting perks that might leave the WNBA concerned.
Will Project B Mark The End Of The WNBA?
As per the recent announcements, Project B is making some lofty promises. According to reports from Front Office Sports, the league is offering its players a salary of $2 million per year.

Now, this, when compared to the WNBA, feels massive. The likes of Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, and more have a salary cap of $249k max. And if this was not alarming enough, there’s more.

Trending WNBA News
The league has promised equity shares to all of its players along with multi-year, 8-figure deals. Surely, such a move might make the WNBA athletes reconsider their decision to stay in the US.
One of the main agendas of the players’ protest revolves around how the WNBA provides a meager 7% revenue share compared to the NBA’s 49%. And the shift has already started. The WNBPA President and the Seattle Storm star, Nneka Ogwumike, became the first player to join Project B. As the league gains momentum, fans have issued some stern warnings to the WNBA.

Another fan chimed in, “WNBA season is very short with games being played mainly during the summer. That’s why W players also play in Europe during NBA season. My guess is Project B season will also run during those months, so it wouldn’t conflict with W and players could play in both. There’s supposed to be six 11-player teams, which means only 66 spots will be available.”
