The Indiana Fever is slowly closing in on the final roster for the playoffs. Although the side needs one win or the Sparks’ one loss to ensure its qualification, the front office is confident of clinching a place in the top eight. With that, they needed to make sure to have a whole available roster eligible for the playoffs and turned their attention to Aerial Powers.
Initially signing her first hardship contract on August 23, Powers signed her second hardship contract on August 30. She completed her contract tenure and is now eligible for further extension.
Indiana Fever Signs Aerial Powers To Rest-Of-Season Contract
The Indiana Fever recently clicked a squad photo, which included injured players also. The photo highlighted how much the team had to go through in the last two months with five players out for the season. Despite that, the side held on to top eight standings and could confirm a spot in the postseason on Sunday.

Due to multiple player injuries, Stephanie White relied on the hardship contract players, who also tried their best to prove their abilities on the court. Out of many players on a seven-day contract, the Fever signed Aari McDonald and Chloe Bibby for rest of the season. But after their season ending injuries, the front office looked to add two more players from the available slot.
First, the Fever signed Odyssey Sims to a rest-of-season contract, and now confirms the signing of another hardship player, Powers, to stay with them till the end of the season. It is important to note that the players signed on hardship contracts are not eligible to play in the playoffs as per the WNBA guidelines.

Playing in six games with Indiana, the combo player is averaging 8.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, impressive enough to win trust of the HC and the front office.
Aerial Powers To Fill In For Sophie Cunningham
The Indiana Fever had their vision clear from the start of the season and picked players accordingly. Cunningham was one of the key players the front office eyed who could impact the game on both ends of the floor. But her season-ending injury forced them to search for an able replacement elsewhere.
Although Lexie Hull is getting some extra gametime, she needed a backup. Former Wings’ rookie was an ideal player for the task at hand. Powers also reflected on ‘weird’ experience of stepping in for Cunningham, but accepts that she is learning to adapt and happy with the opportunity.
“It was actually crazy. I was in Turkey, actually, playing basketball. I got friends out there, and I was just working out. But I was like, ‘Hell yeah, when do you need me?’ And they let me know that it would be in the next few days,” Powers said in an interview.
The Indiana Fever will play against the Washington Mystics next on September 7 and will look to secure a place in the playoffs with a win.
