Injuries to Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, and Caitlin Clark left the Indiana Fever shorthanded in the backcourt. So long, the front office succeeded in finding the right players at the right spots. Their recent addition, Odyssey Sims, has been impressive in the last few games.
Earlier, Sims joined the team on August 10 on a seven-day hardship contract. In short period of time, she formed a great chemistry with her teammates and proved clutch during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks while contributing heavily to the team’s wins over the Seattle Storm. The franchise extended her contract till the end of the season.
Indiana Fever Signs Odyssey Sims For Rest Of The Season
With uncertainty over Caitlin Clark’s return, followed by the confirmed season-long absence of Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham, the Indiana WNBA team was short on the point guard position. There were doubts over the Fever’s chances of qualification following Clark’s injury. But the team remained heavily reliant on the hardship player contracts for most of the season, and is currently in a tight race with three other sides for a top-eight finish.

The experienced guard not only stabilized the point guard position but also provided a scoring punch in the recent games. In seven games played so far, the former Baylor player started in five games, averaging 11.5 points per game. She also has four assists and 2.3 rebounds per game.
With the postseason starting in two weeks and players’ satisfactory development with the side, the Indiana Fever signed her for the rest of the season.

It is important to note that the players on a hardship contract are not eligible to play in the playoff games, making it utterly important for the Indiana franchise to lock a true point guard in the absence of Caitlin Clark.
Stephanie White Has Great Expectations From Experienced Odyssey Sims
There is no clear timetable for Clark’s return. As much as fans are worried about the situation, HC Stephanie White is looking to navigate through the toughest challenges ahead. Using Kelsey Mitchell at the PG position limited her scoring and even impacted the ball movement.
Sims formed a great back-court partnership with KM in recent games. She will not only share the playmaking load with Mitchell but she is an explosive scorer also.
Even if CC returns to the lineup, Sims could fit well as a backup point guard, keeping the offense running for Stephanie White. The Fever side has just four games left to qualify for the playoffs and needs to be at its best form to stay in the top-eight standings.
