Head coach Tyler Marsh is famous for getting the best out of his players. He was the player development coach at the 2019 champions, the Toronto Raptors. He ‘finetuned’ many strong forwards in the NBA, including Pascal Siakam and Marc Gasol, and the first-time head coach is ready to weave his magic on the Chicago Sky players now. The player in focus is Angel Reese.
The 23-year-old had a great collegiate career and adjusted well to the ‘W’ in her rookie season. Now, with the help of Marsh, she is taking her career to new heights and getting the due recognition. A former NBA champion who once made fun of AR5 is now her fan.
Jeff Teague Admits Rise Of Angel Reese
Ever since the LSU star set foot in the ‘W, ‘ she has been scrutinized for her impressive college stats and was constantly compared to her fellow draft class members. Critics used her low efficiency, 39% from the field, playing around the rim, to diminish her rookie season. Even though she was the league’s leading rebounder in 2024, her rebounds were famed as ‘mebounds’, collecting rebounds from her own missed shots.
But the scenes in 2025 are different. The forward is one of the most effective Chicago Sky players and makes records with her scintillating performances. The confident star even turned the ‘mebound’ meme into a business opportunity. Her rise is a big eye-opener for the critics, including former NBA champion Jeff Teague.
“Did y’all get the move she had? She bringing the rock up, hit the girl with an in-and-out to the pull-up. I ain’t seen this Angel Reese… I’m starting to like her… I was one of the people that was laughing when she was missing them layups,” Teague said on the Club 520 Podcast.
Chi-Town Barbie has had a great run in recent games. Since June 22, she has averaged 17.4 points, 16.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. This upped her season average to 13.3 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, and she leads the team in multiple stats.

In 2025, Reese made history as the fastest player to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds. She is on the cover of NBA 2K26, marking her incredible season and immense success off the court.
Was Angel Reese’s Rookie Year A Failure?
The Chicago Sky didn’t have a winning record in 2024 (13-27) and missed the playoffs, finishing 10th in the league. This failure was widely connected to Reese’s inability to carry a team. Individually, the forward had an impressive season, breaking records and earning All-Rookie honors. Despite not winning Rookie of the Year, her performance was strong enough to make her a focal point of the league.

During her first 40-game season, she led the league in total rebounds (446) and offensive rebounds per game. This was a WNBA single-season rebounds record for most rebounds. She also achieved a 15-game double-double streak, the longest by a rookie since Candace Parker. She made it to the All-Star in her very first year and was one of the dominant players in the paint at 22.
Yet, her critics constantly targeted a few areas of improvement. Tyler Marsh worked on improving her offensive consistency, scoring efficiency, and ability to pass up possessions during his first two months at the Sky. With current visible improvements, she might be a strong contender for the ‘Most Improved Player of the Year’ accolade.
