Women’s sports athletes are now taking over the sports pages of the top newspapers, and rightly so. In the recent Summer Olympic Games, the female athletes won more (26) gold medals than their male counterparts (14) for the USA. The dominance is also seen in regular leagues, with the WNBA and NWSL slowly taking over the states.
The WNBA, in particular, has seen a massive surge in popularity. Its multidimensional growth has been the most talked-about topic for a couple of years. Kylie Kelce, wife of Former NFL offensive lineman Jason Kelce, spoke about the growth of the ‘W’ and even expressed a desire to own a team.
Kylie Kelce Looking For Ownership Of WNBA Team
The 33-year-old celebrity hosts a podcast, ‘Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce.’ In the popular show, she talks about providing a platform for her to share her personal stories, opinions, and experiences beyond her role as a “football wife.”

In a recent episode, she pitched in for the WNBA’s expansion. With her ‘home’ in Philadelphia getting a new WNBA team, Kele got excited and mentioned that she wishes to be part of the growth of the Philly team, maybe owning a part stake in the franchise, too.
On her July 3 podcast episode, “Not Gonna Lie,” Kylie even showed some interest in possibly getting involved in this exciting addition to the city she calls home.

“I think that there’s a little bit of controversy about who’s going to own the team. I’m just saying it would be really cool if it was female-owned. But if you need additional female investors, maybe call me,” Kylie Kelce said on the July 3 episode of her podcast.
She lauded the WNBA’s choice, claiming that the city has a massive and passionate fan base and that it will help the league grow. She mentioned that she would attend the WMBA games in Philadelphia with her kids.
Is The WNBA Really A Big Opportunity For Investment?
Moving up to 18 teams in 2030 from 12 in 2024 is a massive step. But the league already sees massive fan demand and multiple basketball cities. Recently, Candace Parker showed interest in owning a franchise. Kylie also mentioned that the demand for women’s basketball is at its peak.
The WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, wrote a special article on the WNBA’s growth in Harvard Business magazine. She acknowledged that the 2024 season had been a turning point for the league. The 60-year-old administrator spoke about her experience handling the league for three decades now. She added that this is a golden period for Women’s basketball.
Her recent bold decisions certainly make some sense now. It will be exciting to watch the W match up with the NBA in the coming years.
