Injuries have been a cruel part of an athlete’s life, with their career and even post-rehab performances on the line. While there are a few successful return stories, many injuries changed the players’ career paths. One such WNBA star, Kysre Gondrezick, who was looking to get back on the court, suffered a season-ending injury ahead of her Athletes Unlimited debut.
Recently, the player came into the limelight with her collaboration with Kyle Juszczyk’s Offseason brand. Cameron Brink praised Gondrezick’s WNBA collab with ‘Off Season’ brand. But the player was eager to get back on the floor after the Sky released her early in the 2024 season.

Kysre Gondrezick Provides Update On Her Injury
The former West Virginia star played for the Indiana Fever and was on the Chicago Sky’s opening day roster in the WNBA. Though she couldn’t make much impact on the games, she was famous for her off-court activities. The star opened up on her relationships with NBA stars like Kevin Porter Jr and Jaylen Brown.
While she was about to make her return to the basketball court, she suffered an ACL injury in practice.
Gondrezick shared the post on Instagram, announcing her injury and wrote, “This hurts! Truly one of the hardest, most shocking moments of my journey thus far. I was diagnosed with a torn Achilles this week and am heading into immediate surgery. I truly don’t wish this upon anyone, but I believe in my creator and in the discipline of becoming the best player and version of myself from this experience.”

In the post, she shared a video of her practice along with the medical procedures. Gondrezick is one of the most followed athletes in the league, who also featured in Playboy as Miss June 2025, becoming the first active professional female basketball player to hold a Playmate title.
While she was away from the league for most of her career, the former number 4 pick stayed updated with the current happenings. She even spoke about the CBA at an interview.
Kysre Gondrezick Asks For Patience On CBA Discussions
The former Fever rookie was on the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast, where she opened up on the CBA discussions and called for patience. She mentioned that the salary cap grows in the NBA every year, and similar things can happen in the WNBA, too.
“Absolutely I think that we are deserving to be able to get paid for what we do. We have a very rigorous schedule, just like our male counterparts, but we’re still building, and we’re growing. As we continue to generate more of an audience … being able to have that distributed equally and deservingly so, but just being patient with understanding that growth and greatness takes time,” she advised.
While her advice makes sense in many respects, the clock is ticking for the league, as it has already paused free agency moves until CBA confirmation. This puts them behind schedule for the start of the 2026 season.
