Out of all the voices in the hoop realm, that of Geno Auriemma is the most prominent of all. While he wanted Dallas to recruit the person Paige Bueckers wanted, Auriemma has never been afraid to put forth his opinions.
Now then, looking at his coaching career, Auriemma is like a rock for the Huskies’ women’s basketball team. But with the men’s football team in a bit of a pickle with Jim Mora’s departure, Auriemma had quite a surprising take on the matter.

What Did Geno Auriemma Think About Jim Mora’s Exit?
The UConn Huskies’ fans are in a state of shock at the moment. After leading the team to nine consecutive winning seasons along with a bowl victory, Jim Mora finally felt that it was time to say goodbye to the Huskies.
According to a recent update, Mora has reportedly signed with Colorado State. Now, as ripples are being sent down the college football community, Auriemma was asked about his take on the matter. And quite surprisingly, the UConn women’s basketball coach stated that he was not surprised with the outcome at all.
“As far as Jim leaving, I don’t think that’s a real big shocker,” Auriemma said. “I think Jim has tremendous ties to the west, and his family is out there. So, it’s disappointing for our fan base and for us here, but understandable, I think, given the job that he did here.”

Meanwhile, Auriemma also pointed out that Mora faced significant challenges competing as an FBS Independent. But in Colorado, he will have a much clearer path to the CFP. Meanwhile, Mora was not the only coach that the UConn coach spoke about. Auriemma also hailed Dallas Wings’ new recruit, Jose Fernandez.
Geno Auriemma Is Happy About the Dallas Wings Choosing Jose Fernandez
Last season was a spectacular one for Paige Bueckers. Unfortunately, while she broke a bunch of records, her contributions failed to uplift her team, which finished last.

Under Chris Koclanes, Bueckers lacked a suitable partner who would complement her attacking style of play. Thus, going for a shakeup, the Wings have now appointed Jose Fernandez. And immediately, Bueckers’ ex-coach, Auriemma, was full of praise.
“I think Jose Fernandez is a great hire by the Dallas Wings. I’ve always had the utmost respect for Jose as a teacher and an innovator. He’s a guy who thinks outside the box, whether that’s recruiting internationally or playing a style of basketball that’s unique. As a person, I think he’s terrific at communicating with his players. He’s a relationship guy. I think he’ll bring tremendous energy, stability, and innovation to that organization,” said Auriemma.
