But recently, he changed his view of his team and gave the side a chance to clinch the title again. In the recent interview, he hinted at the team’s chances in the competition.

The UCLA Bruins and South Carolina Gamecocks’ coaches gave their teams an edge in the upcoming March Madness competition, claiming that this could be their year, with different scenarios pointing to their team winning the championship. ESPN’s reporter, Holly Rowe, also said that the UCLA team could be a real competition.
But shutting them down with one simple stat and mindset, Auriemma sees his team lifting the title once again. He said, “A team that plays with the utmost confidence, belief in themselves, has a pretty good chance to win. So, if they feel that way, then that means they’ll act that way. And that’s really a good sign going in.”

Geno Auriemma Confirms His 2027 Return
Following a win in the Big East tournament, the coach was already looking for his future star as he was on a plane to the Midwest to meet with a 2027 recruit. The ongoing season would see the departure of the UConn stars leaving the program, completing their college tenure, and Auriemma does not want to break the championship rhythm.

Answering about his future, Auriemma said, “Well, I mean, something could come up. but there isn’t anything right now where I’d say, ‘It’s up in the air whether I’ll be back next year.’ No. That’s not what I’m thinking. I would not have been on that plane Tuesday if I was not planning to be here.”
“So I don’t know why in God’s name I’m defying him, I don’t know why,” he told the newspaper. “It’s a big risk.“
When Auriemma decides to retire from coaching, he will be remembered as one of the iconic and most successful leaders for sure.
