The Dallas Wings are sitting on yet another top pick in the WNBA draft, but this time the decision is tougher than the 2025 season. Multiple analysts see Azzi Fudd as the top pick for the Wings, providing their reasons for the choice. Others put their money on Lauren Betts, who was the top pick even before the WNBA’s lottery draft.
A WNBA analyst, though, finds one flaw in the UCL star that might resolve the complexity and help wings to put an end to their ‘offseason-long’ question.

Lauren Betts Unfit In Dallas System
Early in the season, Betts’ offensive game is under scrutiny as an analyst doubts it fits with Paige Bueckers. But since then, she delivered not only big numbers but match-winning performances, impacting the plays on both ends of the floor.
Though this puts her back in the top spot in every draft projection, Melissa Triebwasser thinks otherwise. In her analysis, she wrote, “This is going to be controversial, but hear me out: bust to me means a high pick that doesn’t quickly become a contributor, and that’s why I am going with Lauren Betts. Betts to me is the hardest player to quantify in this class; she’s incredibly talented and dominating at the collegiate level, but there are questions about whether there is a place for a “traditional” center in the modern WNBA,” Triebwasser wrote.

“To me, it will all come down to who drafts Betts. In the right system, with the right roster construction around her, she can absolutely carve out a role and be an impactful player. But the expectations are going to be as loud as the conversation around her has been this season, and that’s a lot of pressure to put on a person. I am personally hoping she proves people wrong.”

It is important to note that, even though the analyst sees Betts as a possible bust at the Wings, she lauded her quality and ability on the floor. While it’s a matter of adjustment for the big Center, she is already doing it at UCL with her four guards detecting the terms, which were quite the opposite last season.
For that, the player even earned a huge shout-out from Iowa Hawkeyes coach Jan Jensen
Lauren Betts Earns Praise From Rival Coach
The 2025-26 UCLA roster is special, with the program about to set an NCAA record for most drafts in a single year. Jan Jensen also lauded the team following their recent 88-65 defeat.
Praising the top two teams in the nation, UConn and UCLA she said, “They both have just lethal actions at every position,” Jensen said. “Both of those teams are very difficult to guard and they play really great defense. The difference with UConn, is they play full court pressure. With Cori (Close), I’m sure they can, but they don’t really need to.”
Adding to her analysis, she said that UCLA’s 6’7” defensive anchor, Lauren Betts, makes scoring in the paint against UCLA a tall task.
