Before the WNBA draft, there was huge buzz around Paige Bueckers ditching the Dallas Wings for a better and stable franchise, considering their poor form at the time. Still, PB stayed with the draft decision, and even though her addition to the team didn’t change much fortune in terms of the results, the former UConn star is still looking to improve the franchise instead of changing her commitment.
Bueckers even set an unwanted record, winning the Rookie of the Year award with the Dallas Wings. However, in a recent interview, she was firm on her contract and drew inspiration from her college career to implement a winning culture at the Wings.
Paige Bueckers Takes Inspiration From Her UConn Accomplishment
PB spent five seasons, including a redshirt year, at the University of Connecticut program. Injuries to her and other key players kept them from winning the title, and it wasn’t until the 2024-25 season that the Huskies had a healthy squad ready to compete for the title. As expected, they delivered, which was like a perfect send-off gift for the senior guard.

Reflecting on her first season with the Wings, the 2025 rookie said, “To come off a national championship, where you’re on top of the world, and then come to the Dallas Wings organization and not have immediate success in terms of the end result of a winning and losing season.”

“I believe everything in my life happens for a reason and there’s a purpose. And even through the injuries, through all the adversity in my life, I’ve always looked back and been extremely grateful for it,” Bueckers added in an exclusive interview.

While the 23-year-old player overcame the ACL injury in her college career, she will be looking to change the difficult situations in the Wings’ roster.
Dallas Wings Looking At Long-Term Future With Paige Bueckers
One thing is certain with the Wings: the franchise is not ready to let go of the generational talent at hand and wants to provide her with prominent young support that could be with her for years to come. Their mid-season moves for their veterans suggested that the franchise is willing to trade veteran players in return for some top draft picks.
This might even indicate that Arike Ogunbowale’s time with the Dallas Wings is officially over, as the front office will look to give a chance to its current young core and incoming players via the WNBA draft. They could fill in the veteran presence with the help of a few top free agency signings.
It will be interesting to see how things will pan out for the Texas-based WNBA team as they now have three seasons in hand to provide PB a reason to stay.
