The Seattle Storm have had a rocky 2025 season, but they’re on the verge of securing a playoff berth despite the ups and downs. While sitting at 22-20 in eighth place, they’re just ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks at 19-20. And while heading ahead, the Storm need to address on emajor flaw before the playoffs.
With a roster packed with stars like Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith, the Storm have the talent to turn things around. With Brittney Sykes and Gabby Williams, the team has depth. As the deadly duo has helped them go 5-2 in their last seven games, including a big upset over the Minnesota Lynx. But a recent 91-85 loss to the Sparks has tightened things, making their last two games crucial.
Seattle Storm Must Do Maths Heading Into WNBA Playoffs
While most other teams are in a puzzle to top it over to the playoffs, the Storm are no different. To clinch, Seattle needs to win at least one of their remaining matchups. It could either come against the New York Liberty or the Golden State Valkyries.

However, an easy win would get them to 23 wins. Also, it would ensure they can’t finish worse than a tie with the Sparks, who have five games left. Seattle currently holds a 3-1 head-to-head tiebreaker over LA, so a tie means the Storm get the spot. If they win both, they hit 24-20, and the Sparks would need a perfect 5-0 finish to match them, and still favor Seattle on tiebreakers, to say the least.

Although higher seeding is possible, it is tricky. The Indiana Fever are at 21-19, and the Golden State Valkyries are at 21-18. Seattle trails the Fever 0-3 in head-to-head, so a tie goes to Indiana. But they lead the Valkyries 2-1, with one more game against them. To jump to seventh or sixth, the Storm need wins and help from other results.

Just like the Fever winning no more than two of their four remaining games, or the Valkyries dropping at least three of their five. However, the Storm’s final game against Golden State could be a tiebreaker decider.
Seattle Storm Need Near Perfect Execution For Playoff Berth
While the Storm are keeping the Sparks and the Valkyries in close watch, there’s another team they could not ignore. Their path avoids the top-seeded Lynx in round one, which is key after their recent win over Minnesota.
Diggins-Smith also mentioned something similar post-Lynx victory. Additionally, Coach Noelle Quinn also echoed that, calling the win a “turning point” after a nine-game losing streak earlier.

If Seattle loses both remaining games, they’d finish 22-20, and the Sparks could pass them with three wins out of five (reaching 22-20), but again, the head-to-head favors the Storm. LA would need four wins for 23-20 to outright pass them. The Fever and Valkyries could also pull away with strong finishes.
In short, one win locks in the playoffs for Seattle via tiebreakers. Two wins could push them higher, depending on others. Their destiny is mostly in their hands, and with their talent, they’re set up to grab it.
