The Indiana Fever had been in a lot of trouble this season. And one of the main among them has been their prevalent injury concerns. With the likes of Caitlin Clark and more sidelined, the playoffs looked quite a distant dream. Thankfully, the team did put up a fine show and earned GM Amber Cox’s praise after securing their playoffs. Unfortunately, after the first game in the knockouts, things are looking extremely sombre for the Fever.
In their opening game, the Fever faced off against the Atlanta Dream. And while a depleted Fever succumbed to a 80-68 loss, the alarm bells started ringing. With everything to play for in Game 2, Indiana will have a crucial pain point to address.
Indiana Fever Head Coach Stephanie White Stresses On Having An Attacking Mindset
There’s a popular saying that attacks are the best form of defense. And after a lacklustre showing in the first game, White is seemingly resorting to an attacking game plan. The Fever players failed to show aggression as they lacked in their attacking skills and also fell short when up against the Dream’s physicality. Speaking about the changes that Fever needs to ring in, White had quite a few on her list.

“We’ve got to really hone in consistently for 40 minutes and get that ball moving side to side. Then we’ve got to take our open shots. Whether we’re making shots or missing shots, we’ve got to take them. We can’t get hesitant,” said White.

Thankfully for Indiana, they can take hope from the fact that Dream did not play their best game either. In fact, they did have quite a poor effort, converting only seven three-pointers out of their 22 attempts. And with Game 2 scheduled in Indianapolis, White and co. will have an extra zeal to push for the win. Meanwhile, as Fever was hit with a Damiris Dantas injury update, Fever head coach had already laid out the master plan to defeat Dream.

Stephanie White Revealed Indiana Fever’s Strategy Ahead Of Playoff Game 1
Bad days are certainly part of the game. And the Fever fans would like to believe that Game 1 was just a bad day in the office. After all, despite the Dream looking like a strong entity on paper, one cannot say that the Fever came unprepared. In fact, right before they faced off against Atlanta, head coach Stephanie White laid out her plans for stopping the Atlanta Dream.

“They’ve gotta play like five feet beyond the three point line. Number two, ball pressure, can’t make easy passes. And number three, our positioning. We can’t be caught behind their bigs. We can’t be deep, more than one to two steps off a ball line and allow those easy passes out,” said White.
Surely, the over-stressing on defense might have had the Fever’s offense get inside a shell. Now, as the Fever follow an offense-first approach, fans wait to see whether they can turn the tide in Game 2.
