Looks like the Indiana Fever’s struggles are not going to end soon. After their recent back-and-forth struggle to find the rhythm, the Fever were forced to make a tough decision. In a surprising move, they have parted ways with star DeWanna Bonner.
This comes after the Fever struggled to search for a trade partner for Bonner and finally released her. However, this was not a sudden shock for her, as the discontent had been brewing between the Fever and her. DeWanna had also been vocal about her dissatisfaction with the camp and wanted to move out.
Fever Signs Aari McDonald After Waiving DeWanna Bonner
According to reports, Bonner was not very happy with the team. She has missed about five games for the Fever due to personal reasons. And that could also be one of the reasons for her release.
To fill the gap, Fever called up a familiar face in Aari McDonald. The team has re-signed McDonald after-party ways with Bonner. McDonald was initially signed as an extension with the Los Angeles Sparks, but they waived her in the final days of training camp.
McDonald is a WNBA veteran. The Atlanta Dream selected her third overall in the 2021 WNBA draft. She has played for Fever in the absence of Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. She was quite impressive, averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 rebounds over 25.3 minutes per game.

What’s Next For DeWanna Bonner?
After being waived by the Fever, DeWanna Bonner is ready to embrace the next chapter of her basketball journey. The talented veteran forward has her heart set on reuniting with the Phoenix Mercury or possibly joining the Atlanta Dream. Both of the teams hold a special place for her.
After spending ten incredible seasons with the Mercury and clinching two championships, her desire is understandable. The thought of returning to a familiar team and playing alongside her fiancée, Alyssa Thomas, could be the next big thing for her.

Bonner’s time with the Fever was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. She averaged 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds over just nine games, and things didn’t click right. The Fever and Bonner weren’t on the same page, which led to the decision to part ways.
With the Fever unable to manage a suitable trade, Bonner now enters a 48-hour waiver period during which she hopes another team will call her up. If no team claims her during the waiver process, she’ll dive into free agency and likely have to consider a minimum contract just to keep her career going.
