Caitlin Clark was about to face Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings, but the dream was cut short. Eager fans waiting for the showdown had to return empty-handed during the Fever-Wings game. However, things never went as expected.
The Indiana Fever star was out for the previous game against the Seattle Storm as well. Additionally, Bueckers and Clark have not faced each other, and it would have been the first time. Sadly, Clark was placed on day-to-day due to a groin injury. What made it worse was the decision to pull out the reigning WNBA rookie at the last minute.
Stephanie White Apologizes For Keeping Caitlin Clark Out
Before the Fever took on the Wings, head coach Stephanie White stated that Clark would stay out. The decision was made to help Clark recover soon and prevent her from getting injured further. The coach knew that fans were waiting to watch two of the league’s top players clash. Hence, she took to social media to make a public apology.

“I’m sorry for the people who are coming. I think I feel a disappointment for them, more than anything, because I want them to see Caitlin Clark at her best and us at her best,” White said (via IndyStar).
“I hate that for fans, but at the same time, for us as a team and for Caitlin as a person and player, her health and wellness is the priority,” White continued.
It made sense what the head coach wanted. It’s better to play it safe than risk one of the best players’ chances of an injury. However, it’s pretty rare to see a head coach issue a public apology for a player’s absence, but White believed that she made the right decision.

White Keeps Caitlin Clark Out For The Right Reasons
Fans might be frustrated for missing out on seeing Clark. However, it was necessary for the Fever as they plan to keep Clark healthy. According to White, she was considering Clark’s long-term health and wellness.
“It’s just, it really is a day-to-day thing, and I think for us, making sure that we’re prioritizing her long-term health and wellness. You know, anybody who’s had some of these types of injuries understands that sometimes it’s a process,” White said.
The Indiana Fever will take on the Minnesota Lynx, but it’s uncertain if Caitlin Clark will be playing on the team. However, with the team’s lackluster performance and the rookie’s slumping record would surely be considered before making any crucial decision. Until Clark heads back to the court, fingers crossed.
