The Chicago Sky & Dallas Wings have been eliminated from the playoffs. This means that the WNBA fans will be missing the likes of Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese’s performances in the postseason. Thus, with the race to the playoffs getting tricky, another player who the fans do not want to miss is Caitlin Clark. Although she is currently nursing a groin injury, there is a pretty good chance that Clark might make a comeback in the postseason. However, with the Washington Mystics getting eliminated, the Indiana Fever faces a tricky situation.
The Washington Mystics squared off against the Golden State Valkyries in an all-important clash. Unfortunately for the Mystics, they suffered a blowout 99-62 loss, bowing out of the league. Now, this clearly means that the Indiana Fever now has an upperhand. However, it still does not guarantee them a playoff berth.
Indiana Fever Might Finish 9th As Per Calculations From Tony East
On paper, it looks like a happy outing for the Fever. Statistically, the Mystics cannot catch the Fever. Despite some grim Caitlin Clark news from Stephanie White, the team has been holding up significantly well. However, with Washington now eliminated, it all comes down to just nine teams fighting for eight playoff berths. But there’s more. The Minnesota Lynx, Las Vegas Aces, and Atlanta Dream have already secured their postseason spots.

This means there are six teams competing for the remaining five berths. And this is where things get interesting. As pointed out by Tony East, Indiana can, on paper, finish in the second position. But on the contrary, considering their inconsistent record, they might just bow out of the season, clinching a ninth spot.
“This win gives the Mystics 24 losses, meaning they A) can’t catch the Fever in the standings and B) won’t make the playoffs. The Fever’s range for their final spot in the standings is now 2-9,” East wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Surely, this is something that Fever will not want to happen. While the chances of them finishing second looks unreal, the team might as well aim for a top-four finish. Meanwhile, dealing with injuries, prominent Fever star Lexie Hull recently delved deep into the impacts.
Lexie Hull Speaks About Injury Impact On Indiana Fever Ahead Of Playoffs
The Indiana Fever has been struggling to find its footing with more and more of its athletes getting injured. It all started with Clark. And now, it’s a full house. Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, Sophie Cunningham, and more have resorted to the injury list. Things have gotten so much worse that Fever had to sign Aerial Powers to a second hardship contract recently. And all of these injuries surely have a deep impact on the team and its functioning. Opening up on the same, Lexie Hull pointed out what exactly it means to not have the prime stars around.

“It’s hard. Obviously, (Sophie) brings a lot of energy to our team. So it’s hard not having her, Sydney and Aari. Not having them on these trips have definitely been a change. We definitely miss what they bring not only on the court, but off of it,” said Hull.
Surely, the Fever is enjoying a good time at the moment. And with the odds going in their favor following Washington’s loss, Stephanie White and co. will definitely try to capitalize. Now, fans will be eager to see what actually happens as the league progresses.
