The Indiana Fever is having a mixed season this year. While the team has been managing well without Caitlin Clark’s services, injuries are becoming an increasing issue. Initially, it was Clark who still did not have a return date. Now, with others going down, the team decided to add Odyssey Sims to bolster its squad.
The announcement came on Sunday from official sources. It has been conveyed that Sims has been signed on a hardship contract. Such an addition will surely make the Fever feel a bit better. But still, some serious concerns remain, as a hardship contract does not provide enough padding.
Can Odyssey Sims Bail Out Indiana Fever?
The biggest issue for the Fever is that they had to sign Sims on a hardship contract. According to the WNBA rules, a hardship contract lasts seven days. However, Fever can still extend her reign for seven more days if Sims shows enough promise. Unfortunately, a player cannot have three hardship contracts, and neither can such contracts be extended into the playoffs.
Now, coming to Sims, she could be a decent addition to the squad. Starting the season with the Sparks, the former All-Star got waived back in July. Before that, she had an average of 9.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. And that is not all.

Sims also shot an impressive 35.3% from three-point range. Debuting in the league back in 2014, Fever will be Sims’ sixth team. Meanwhile, the Fever became eligible for a hardship contract after Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald suffered season-ending injuries. While Colson tore her ACL, McDonald has a broken foot to deal with. And all of this makes Fever want Caitlin Clark back desperately.
Caitlin Clark’s Injury Gets Major Update Amidst Odyssey Sims Signing
Caitlin Clark has been sitting out for a long time now. While she has appeared in just 13 games, Clark has sat out on 10 consecutive occasions. And not only that, apart from Clark, DeWanna Bonner too, is out. Thus, in such a dire situation, the Fever wants Clark back. However, according to Stephanie White, the management wants to proceed cautiously.

“She is day-to-day right now. We are really not putting a timetable on it. Going through the rehab process, and then we want to reintegrate her from the strength and conditioning standpoint. And then taking her to the basketball activities. We are taking it one day at a time,” White said on NBA TV (Via X/@kenswift).
Surely, the addition of Odyssey Sims will be a significant factor if she can replicate her best days. However, all eyes are now on Clark. And fans cannot wait to see when she will make her return.
