There will only be the top eight teams who will advance to the 2025 WNBA Playoffs. Not more, not less. And to fall into the brackets, the Indiana Fever will do anything in their capacity, even fake Caitlin Clark’s injury status. At least rumours are saying so.
The star rookie has been out of action for quite some time. While the sources keep updating on any development in her road to recovery, critics think there’s something hiding in plain sight.
Is Indiana Fever Hiding Caitlin Clark’s Actual Injury Status?
Though there could be more than one theory to this claim, the Fever, pushing for a playoff spot, is already congested with a couple of major injuries. In the last week, Clark did show some positive activity around the wood court, only to fall short of making it past the bench.
Most recently, fans are starting to whisper about whether the team is playing it too close to the chest with her status. All of this, especially after a cryptic tweet hinting that Clark’s season might be done for good. However, with the Fever at 18-15 and clinging to the six spot, her absence since July 15 has left a big hole, and some are questioning if the organization is dragging out updates to keep ticket sales strong.
Additionally, a tweet from a fan account (X/@KinnickNorth23) on August 14 went viral, asking startling questions.
“Is it possible the Fever organization knows that CCs season is over, but they’re not making the announcement in hopes that it’ll prevent a decline in attendance?” the caption read.

Though it was not the only person who thought so, the tweet racked up over 85,000 views and 197 replies. While most comments are divided. Also, the Fever has been vague, with no official timetable. On top of that, Clark’s only been doing light rehab. As of now, she has missed 11 games, and her return feels like a mystery.
Caitlin Clark’s Different Injury Status Across Sources Left Everybody Confused
The confusion ramped up when the WNBA’s official site listed Clark as a “Game-Time Decision” for the August 12 Wings game, with an estimated return of August 11, per SI.com. But ESPN had her as “OUT,” and she didn’t play, fueling speculation.
No one from the Fever has confirmed a season-ending injury, but the lack of clarity has fans thinking they’re hiding something to avoid a ticket slump. And it is nearly believable as well, given that Clark’s star power has much to do with packed arenas.
The Fever signed Odyssey Sims on a regular hardship contract, which isn’t necessarily tied to the 10-available player rule.

The rule is confusing, but the jist of it (which is still too long to be in a single post) is this: pic.twitter.com/xTKWvWPZJR
The average attendance jumps 74% when she’s playing, and the team draws crowds even without her. So why risk a drop-off by announcing bad news?
Additionally, after Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald injured themselves, the Fever signed Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract, bringing them to nine healthy players. They could sign another, but they haven’t, suggesting they might not expect Clark back soon.
