A’ja Wilson has been on a roll ever since her time with the Las Vegas Aces this season. Having won the WNBA title, the Aces’ star has been receiving a lot of praise. Recently, to further add to the joy, Wilson won the AP Female Athlete of the Year, too.
And that was not all. With the accolades flooding in, the four-time WNBA MVP also added yet another feather to her crown. This time, she was honored as TIME’s 2025 Athlete of the Year. Surely, after a fantastic performance with the Aces, Wilson is looking forward to making the most of the opportunities coming her way in the future.
Now then, having won the accolade from the TIMES, congratulatory messages have flooded Wilson’s inbox. But along with it, criticisms too, came hand in hand, especially from Jason Whitlock.

Jason Whitlock Takes A Shot At A’ja Wilson
In a recent appearance on the ‘Fearless with Jason Whitlock’ podcast, Whitlock did not look pleased at all. Reflecting on the topic of Wilson receiving the TIME’s Award, he pointed out that Wilson winning the award meant that the WNBA ‘took a shot’ at Caitlin Clark.
Explaining further, Whitlock pointed out how Clark has been one of the biggest gifts for the league. He also said that at the moment, all the WNBA was trying to do was ‘destroy’ Clark instead of banking on her.
“Let me tell you what Asia Wilson and the WNBA’s greatest accomplishment is. Their greatest accomplishment has been destroying Caitlin Clark. You took something that special that could have been a gift to give you. Caitlin Clark’s an afterthought right now,” said Whitlock.

Surely, these are some pretty strong words coming from Whitlock. However, on the flip side, as the Aces pulled off a stellar season, head coach Becky Hammon compared Wilson to the likes of LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
Becky Hammon Terms A’ja Wilson As The ‘Best Ever’
The Aces looked down and out at one point this year. But then, they stunned everyone as they went on to win 17 games in a row to claim the championship. And Wilson was a major contributor to the team’s victory.

Heaping praises on Wilson, Hammon pointed out that she was the ‘best,’ practically comparing her to the likes of James and Jordan.
“If she’s the best ever to play in the WNBA, I could make a strong argument she is the best ever to walk this planet,” said Hammon.
