It is a pretty well-known fact that Angel Reese likes to be in the spotlight. However, usually, it is her on-court performance or a special endorsement that brings her into the limelight. But in recent times, something pretty much unwanted has drawn a lot of attention. The Sky star has been pretty impressive this season with significant improvement in her shooting. And while she lashed out at her teammates recently, rumors of Reese parting ways with Chicago went wild. But general manager Jeff Pagliocca said otherwise.
The 23-year-old rookie star exploded in a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune. Reese pointed out how she will not be continuing with the franchise till a number of quality players are added to the side. And as the rumor mills have started churning, Pagliocca was quick to respond.

Reese also presumed that, except for Kamilla Cardoso and herself, there would not be any returners for the next season. Such a claim was immediately dismissed by the likes of Courtney Vandersloot. Vandersloot addressed Reese’s criticism and confirmed her 2026 comeback. All of this back-and-forth led to the rumors that Sky might be looking to trade the Chi-town Barbie in the offseason.

Reflecting on the same, Pagliocca stated that the Sky front office did not have any such intentions. He pointed out that the management has dealt with the situation and has moved on from the same. According to him, Reese is in the roster “until I hear differently, that’s the direction we’re going to move, is that she’s on the roster.”

“Angel is an ascending young talent in this league who’s had two very, very good seasons here in Chicago. Obviously we went through what we did. I feel like we closed the chapter on it. She spoke to her teammates, she spoke publicly. We moved on as a team. She’s a special player. And I have good conversations with Angel daily, with her team daily. They’re constant, and they’re productive,” said Pagliocca.

Surely, such a clear-cut statement meant that Reese will probably be donning the Sky’s jersey again. However, given the fact that she decided to skip the last regular-season game, Sky would surely leave room for discussion. Meanwhile, the fans have demanded Pagliocca’s firing after a dismal season.
Jeff Pagliocca Under Pressure After Poor Showing From Chicago Sky
Keeping aside the Reese controversy, the situation with the Sky is not at all rosy. Hoping for a rebound from last year’s disastrous season, the fans instead endured another disappointing run. Playing their final regular-season game, the Sky faced off against the New York Liberty. Unfortunately, once again, the team failed to dominate proceedings and succumbed to a 91-86 defeat. Surely, this was not a good sight for the Chicago fans as the team slumped to a 10-34 record.

Soon, the Sky fans began to express their frustrations and demanded the termination of Pagliocca’s contract. Posters holding messages like “#Free5,” and “We’re tired of mediocrity #selltheteam” became a common sight. And during the third quarter, almost the entire arena went off in unison against the Sky general manager. Thus, it is pretty evident how tense the situation is. Fans will now be waiting eagerly to see how the management strategizes a comeback.
