The WNBA world shook with Project B’s strategy of luring top WNBA stars for the new overseas 5-on-5 league. The aggressive league started with WNBPA’s president, Nneka Ogwumike, followed by Alyssa Thomas, and then Jonquel Jones, who followed the former champion. Now the new addition to the list is Jewell Loyd.
Fans threw shade at Alyssa Thomas and Nneka Ogwumike when they joined the supposed rival league. However, it didn’t affect players, as Project B announced two new signings following the online outburst from fans.

Jewell Loyd Joins Project B
The WNBA CBA negotiation discussions are still in progress, although there are no positive signs of reaching an agreement. The league has assured that it will ensure fans get the 2026 season. Amid all this, the league is losing its star players to Project B, and the latest one was Las Vegas Aces guard Jewell Loyd.
The league announced the signing on social media, and the veteran guard also announced her decision. The confirmation came a day after former WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones stated that she’d play in the foreign league.
Although salaries and other perks are the primary reasons for the decision, the players are also seeking to provide a platform for women’s sports to reach new heights. “Every step forward in this game is an investment in what’s possible. I believe in where women’s basketball is headed, and the worldwide momentum is real. I’m excited to help shape what comes next for the next generation,” Loyd said.

Jones had another view on the exciting new project and mentioned that she is excited to continue playing against the best players in the world, play with them, and explore new parts of the world.
Interestingly, the former All-Star Angel McCoughtry poses a nightmare question for WNBA players amid the Project B threat, which, to some extent, was a concern for many WNBA fans. As for the Project B authorities, they are happy with the progress the league made before its inaugural season.
Project B Basketball Chief Officer Lauds Jewelle Loyd And Jones’ Addition
According to the report, Project B will require 66 players for their first season, as the league plans to start with six teams of 11 players. So far, they have released four names, and all of them have been impactful stars in the WNBA.
Project B chief basketball officer Alana Beard reflected on the latest additions as she said, “Jonquel and Jewell represent Project B’s core principles of elite talent, global impact and leadership beyond the court. They’ve both defined excellence in their own way and now they’re redefining what’s possible for players and fans around the world. Having them as partners and owners reinforces everything we’re building.”
It’s clear that Project B is targeting the top players from the league and is ready to offer higher remuneration. The WNBA will also aim to provide financial stability to remain competitive in the current trend.
