Without injured star A’ja Wilson, the Las Vegas Aces absorbed their second straight loss after bowing to the Washington Mystics, 70-68, on Thursday. It was a painful loss for the Aces, who led by 13 points at halftime. The Mystics went on a 12-2 run to close the game and steal the victory. Washington improved to 10-10, while Las Vegas fell to 9-11.
With Wilson sidelined by a right wrist injury, guard Jewell Loyd paced the Aces with 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. She added three rebounds and two assists in a valiant effort. As a silver lining, Loyd also moved past a WNBA legend in marking an impressive milestone.
Jewell Loyd On The WNBA All-Time Three-Pointers List
Loyd sank two three-pointers versus the Aces. In the process, she entered the top 10 of the WNBA’s all-time three-pointers list. The prolific guard now has 607 makes from long distance. She surpassed former MVP Tamika Catchings, who tallied 607 three-pointers in her illustrious career.
The Aces released a congratulatory post on X(formerly Twitter) following Loyd’s latest feat.
“GOLD MAMBA’S MOVIN’ ON UP. @jewellloyd is now 10th on the @WNBA’s all-time three-pointers list!” wrote Las Vegas.
WNBA icon Diana Taurasi, who retired after last season, sits comfortably atop the list with 1,447 three-pointers. She is followed by her good friend Sue Bird with 1,001 long bombs. Former All-Stars Katie Smith, Becky Hammon, and Tina Thompson round out the top five.

Jewell Loyd’s Dismal Stint With The Aces
The 31-year-old Loyd joined the Aces in the offseason via a three-team trade with her former team, the Seattle Storm, and the Los Angeles Sparks. Loyd grew disgruntled with the Storm last season and requested a trade. She had spent her entire career in Seattle, helping the team win two titles in 2018 and 2020.

While the six-time All-Star has been a welcome addition, the Aces have struggled to find their rhythm this season. Loyd, a former scoring champion, is having her worst campaign, averaging a career-low 10.4 points.
Wilson being sidelined doesn’t help the Aces’ cause at all. But it could also be a blessing in disguise and fuel Loyd to step up and improve her performance. Achieving a new milestone should also boost her morale.
The Aces will look to snap their two-game skid on Saturday when they take on the Golden State Valkyries.
