There is considerable uncertainty surrounding the New York Liberty at the moment. While its top players are free agents in the offseason, they don’t even have a head coach at the moment. On top of that, the news of the rift between Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones hit the franchise.
Regarding the players’ free agency, GM Kolb is confident about retaining the top stars for the franchise. Then, the Liberty reportedly narrows down to 3 potential candidates for the head coach position. And now Jones came forward to answer questions about the feud in question.
Jonquel Jones Reacted To Feud With Breanna Stewart
Earlier this week, the UConn star posted a cryptic message on social media calling out someone for being “two-faced,” which left many fans confused. Soon after, her forward partner at the Liberty shared a message that sounded just as mysterious. This led to online chatter suggesting that the two stars were aiming their posts at each other.

But the Bahamian star cleared the air, responding to a fan post claiming the feud. In her post, Jones wrote, “Yall messy as hell but yall wish! Me and Stew good.”

On the floor, though, the players will be looking to get back to their form and find rhythm after an early exit in the 2025 playoffs. Interestingly, Stewart has some backing for her gameplay.
Breanna Stewart Gets Support From Geno Auriemma Despite Poor Season
The three-time WNBA Champion had a rough season with the Liberty team, as per her standards. She averaged 18.3 points, 3.5 assists, and 6.5 rebounds with 2.8 steals (steals + blocks). For any normal WNBA player, these are impressive numbers, but for Stewie, these are the lowest average since her rookie season.
But she got backing from her former coach, Geno Auriemma, who won four NCAA titles with the forward. The UConn coach said, “Whenever Stewie’s playing in a big game, I expect her to play great, and that hasn’t changed one iota. And I hope they get a really good coach and I hope they put a really good team around her because I think she’s one of the great things in this city, for sure.”
I asked UConn coach Geno Auriemma about how he thought Breanna Stewart navigated this past WNBA season:

“She got to make a shot once in a while. That sucker missed more jump shots this year than I saw her miss in the last seven years.”

At the moment, the 31-year-old star is an unrestricted free agent, and still calling her one of the greats in New York is a pretty bold statement considering the uncertainty over her future. Incidentally, Stewart drops three-word confirmation on return to New York Liberty after playoff loss in exit interview.
While the Liberty fans are happy with the end of ‘feud’ rumors, they will also be looking to see the best from both forwards to return to their former glory.
