Jonquel Jones had been the star for the New York Liberty back in 2024. As the New York outfit rejoiced with the title, Jones’ impeccable form earned her the Finals MVP award. This year, too, things started off on a high note for Liberty. They went 9-0 up initially with the likes of Jones in fine form. Unfortunately, as she suffered an ankle injury, things went haywire from there.
Now then, as the 31-year-old is on her path to recovery, there could be a major effect of the same on the free agency landscape. As Jones was listed as one of the Top 5 free agents to watch out for this season. Much like most veterans, Jones, too, will be entering free agency. And this will surely create a hype among the other franchises. After all, everyone would want someone like Jones suiting up for them. Unfortunately, with the veteran star looking to come back to New York, things might get complicated soon.
Franchises Aiming To Acquire Jonquel Jones Might Have To Settle For Alternatives
In a recent update via ‘The IX Basketball,’ the 31-year-old revealed that she has successfully undergone surgery on her right ankle. Further details on the surgery also emerged as Jackie Powell stated that the operation was aimed at correcting an instability that resulted in the Liberty star missing 13 games this season.

Meanwhile, with a lot of teams looking to add some quality, and with two new teams coming in, the demand for Jones was sky-high. After all, she is one of the biggest names that will be entering free agency. Unfortunately, that might not be the case this year.
