As the days to the extended CBA deadline are coming near, things are looking pretty bleak for the WNBA. For one, there does not seem to be any concrete solution for how the league will address the equal pay issue. Recently, A’ja Wilson dropped key updates on the matter.
And if this was not enough, the threat of rival leagues is looming large at the moment. For example, the 3-on-3 league, Unrivaled, has already made ripples by paying the athletes much more than what the WNBA has been paying.
However, now, with Project B coming up next year, the concerns for the WNBA are at an all-time high. And to make matters worse, following the footprints of Nneka Ogwumike and Alyssa Thomas, Jonquel Jones, too, has signed up for Project B.
Jonquel Jones Makes The Switch To Project B
The New York Liberty center is just fresh from her WNBA triumph back in 2024. Becoming the Finals MVP, Jones was cited to serve the league for a long time. Unfortunately, with the advent of the CBA struggles, she has now found herself a new hoops destination outside of the States.

In a recent announcement on Instagram, Jones confirmed that she will be playing in the Saudi-based league.
Speaking about her recent decision, the Liberty star expressed her excitement “to be able to continue to play against the best players in the world, play with the best players in the world and be able to see new parts of the world.”

She further reaffirmed her commitment by saying, “Let’s get it.”
Surely, such news will elevate the tensions of the WNBA front office further. Jones becomes the third frontline WNBA star to sign for Project B.
Before Jonquel Jones, Nneka Ogwumike, And Alyssa Thomas Too Joined Project B
The likes of Napheesa Collier and co. have been vehemently protesting for the lack of revenue share. But as the WNBA front office has been lacking in making a solid decision on the matter, players are seemingly switching from the popular league.

After joining the league, Ogwumike stated, “It’s not something that’s usually offered to us, and by us, I mean women athletes. So, for there to be an entry level of equity across the board was eye-catching. It’s something that I stand for, obviously.”
Nneka Ogwumike has signed a contract with Project B, the latest pro women's basketball league that is expected to begin in Europe and Asia next winter. Ogwumike will get an undisclosed salary and equity stake in the league. https://t.co/gxdniC7MQR

And not only Ogwumike, the likes of Alyssa Thomas too, switched. Thus, with things looking pretty problematic, it now remains to be seen what happens next.
