Three months into the season, and the Atlanta Dream hardly had its complete roster available for games. Players have been in and out of the rotation following injuries. Now they will be their guard Jordin Canada in the rehab, following a hamstring injury against the Phoenix Mercury.
As per the latest update from the franchise, the 30-year-old star will miss two weeks’ action. The Dream team, sitting comfortably in second place, will play seven games in that period.
Jordin Canada’s Injury Gets Concerning Update
On a five-game winning run, the Atlanta Dream stormed into the top three of the season rankings. A solid team performance that absorbed a few injuries in that period and still remained competitive on the court. Just when they looked to have their full roster available, the former UCLA star went down holding her right leg in the third quarter against the Mercury.
She went back to the locker room and, after the evaluation, didn’t come back. The further testing confirms the seriousness of the injury as the franchise announced her absence for two weeks.
“Following further evaluation, Jordin Canada has been diagnosed with a right hamstring injury sustained during the Atlanta Dream’s game on August 10. Canada will be sidelined for at least two weeks and is expected to make a full recovery. A timeline for her return will be provided when appropriate,” reads the Atlanta Dream official statement.

Canada was out on the fastbreak and fell awkwardly following a foul by Sami Whitecomb. She remained on the ground for some time, rubbing her right hamstring in pain. This is the third player’s injury against the Phoenix Mercury after the Indiana Fever lost Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson for the rest of the season.

The Atlanta starting guard injured her leg in the pre-season games and played in 23 games for Karl Smesko. Ironically, the Dream saw the return of Rhyne Howard and Brittney Griner from injuries on the same night they lost another starter.
Jordin Canada’s Injury Forces Dream’s Readjustment
One thing about the Atlanta Dream in 2025 is that they used their rotation very well – as the injuries forced them to do so. In the initial phases of the season, when the two-time WNBA champion was out due to knee injury, rookie Te-Hina Paopao got the starting role.

Paopao started in the absence of Howard, also giving her side some flexibility and versatility in the games. Maya Caldwell also had some starting roles in team’s star players absence. Still, Karl Smesko will be hoping to have his all starters available for the playoffs to win franchise’s first title.
