The Chicago Sky might have had one of the worst seasons in its history, but it still remains at the top with players like Angel Reese leading the line. Though the franchise needs to add a potent support around her, she might have just recruited one of the top free agents in the league with her relationships at the individual level.
During the Team USA games in Puerto Rico, Reese shared pictures with many veteran players with whom she has a strong bond, and a recent response from Kahleah Copper might just open a door for the franchise to leverage that relationship to secure a quality player.

Kahleah Copper’s Cryptic Response To Angel Reese’s Question
During the Unrivaled season, the 2024 rookie formed many close bonds with a number of veterans in the league, and Copper was one forward who was ready to guide her and mentor her in the WNBA.
Off the court, though, Reese had been a major help for the former Sky forward, and the 24-year-old jokingly wrote, “What would @kahleahcopper do without me, like seriously?” Copper also responded with “I actually don’t know. Let’s never find out.” comment.

A replay that hints at staying together prompted a possible return for the talented guard. Copper led the side to the 2021 championship and was Finals MVP at the time. Her return would boost the franchise’s chances to compete at a high level.

While the reunion of veteran forward and Reese is possible in the free agency, the franchise is first looking to protect its star players in the expansion draft, and came up with the brilliant move.
Chicago Sky Protects Angel Reese And Whole Roster With Smart Move
The 2026 WNBA expansion draft will be one of the cruelest ones for the franchises that just went through a similar process for the Valkyries in 2025. This time, though, the franchises can protect only five players with two new teams entering the mix.
Chicago Sky, though, came up p with a sneaky plan to protect its whole roster with two trades before the expansion draft. As per the report, the Sky franchise traded the No. 17 pick in the 2026 collegiate draft to the Portland Fire and also sent their No. 26 to the Toronto Tempo. This was a smart move as it would now prevent both the expansion teams from acquiring Sky’s players.
