Kelsey Mitchell has been one of the stars in the Indiana Fever’s squad this season. With the likes of Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham getting injured, it was Mitchell who made the team look like a champion outfit. Now, even as Mitchell expresses uncertainty about her future with the Fever, the team is not shying away from making it public how much exactly Mitchell meant for the team. Likewise, Fever assistant coach Karima Christmas-Kelly heaped a lot of praise on Mitchell.
Mitchell was undoubtedly one of the prized stars for the Fever. It was due to her exceptional game IQ that Indiana qualified for the semis. They even gave the Aces tough competition in the semis. Thus, it is only expected that the star player will receive her due praise.
Kelsey Mitchell Called ‘Amazing’ By Karima Christmas-Kelly
Christmas-Kelly has been the assistant coach for the Fever since 2023. Thus, she has known first-hand how Mitchell had struggled and has emerged as a basketball powerhouse in the WNBA. And with the 29-year-old finishing off yet another memorable season, the Fever assistant coach did not mince words in proving how much Mitchell meant for the team.

“It was an honor and a pleasure to be by your side during this 2025 season. I’m so happy everyone got to witness your greatness on the biggest stage throughout the year. You show love, you give love, and I now you receive love from near and far! Keep being you my girl!” Christmas-Kelly wrote.
Well, speaking about Mitchell’s impeccable season, the 29-year-old dropped season-best figures. She averaged 20.2 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.8 rebounds. One of the biggest highlights of her season was that the Fever star played in all 44 regular-season games as well as the eight playoff games. This was a remarkable achievement, especially considering the significant number of players who were struggling with injuries. Meanwhile, despite such a stellar performance, Mitchell recently revealed her scary Rhabdomyolysis condition. And shining further light on the same was her teammate, Sophie Cunningham.

Sophie Cunningham Reflects On How Kelsey Mitchell Recovered From Her Rhabdomyolysis
Mitchell’s end to a scintillating season came as a heartbreak. The WNBA star walked off the court as she had a condition named ‘Rhabdomyolysis.’ In such a condition, the muscles of the body shut down, which leads to a temporary state of paralysis. Speaking about the same in a recent episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, Cunningham pointed out how scary the situation actually was.

“She just got a full body cramp…it was bad, she was a little sick, super dehydrated, but really the doctor said you know, like, she played till her wheels came off. Like her body was to a point of exhaustion, where she couldn’t go anymore. She was in a full-body cramp. They rushed her to the hospital. Got some IVs in her, did some blood work. She’s gonna be good, but she is super sore. She is moving, walking slowly… we’re thankful, but it still s**ks,” Cunningham stated.
Thus, it is evident that Mitchell has been managing a great deal to maintain her position as a top WNBA star. Now, with the athlete looking to explore new opportunities, it remains to be seen what the next step will be.
