The Indiana Fever have been one of the most exciting teams this season. Not only because they have Caitlin Clark on their side, but also because of how well they are performing even without the star rookie, much of that goes to Kelsey Mitchell.
Recently, the Fever put out another great performance despite losing it all to the Minnesota Lynx at 95-90. In the game, it was Kelsey who shone the brightest with a side-leading stat line, and to add to that, she left behind DeWanna Bonner in the WNBA three-pointer record.
Kelsey Mitchell Surpassed DeWanna Bonner In WNBA Career Three-Pointers
During the game, Mitchell was phenomenal. The star guard drained a three-pointer that pushed her past Fever teammate Bonner, making her the 10th player ever to hit 650 career three-pointers in the league. It’s a big moment for Mitchell, who’s been lighting it up all season, and it happened right at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Fever’s home court.

Mitchell’s been a sharpshooter since her Ohio State days, and this milestone proves she’s among the WNBA’s elite. Bonner, a two-time champion and six-time All-Star, is no slouch herself, but Mitchell’s rise shows her knack for the long ball.

However, this season alone, she’s leading the league with 710 points, including a career-high 46.8% field goal percentage and 109 three-pointers, good for fourth in the WNBA. Additionally, her consistency is unreal, as she’s had stretches like seven straight 20-point games, a franchise record.

The game itself was a heartbreaker for Indiana. Down by double digits, the Fever fought back, with Mitchell pouring in 26 points, three rebounds, and eight assists. But the Lynx, led by Napheesa Collier’s near triple-double, held on. It’s been a rough stretch for the Fever, who are 19-16 and clinging to the sixth seed in the playoff race.
Kelsey Mitchell Playing Crucial Role In Indiana Fever’s Playoff Dream
Though the playoff dream looks convincing, the Indiana Fever are marred by injuries. And despite their rookie star, Clark, missing out on the majority of the recent games, Kelsey Mitchell’s been the glue, stepping up big time.

Following a devastating third-quarter deficit against the Connecticut Sun, Mitchell held tight and went on to score 24 points in the second half. She ultimately led her team to a historic comeback victory.
Her power-packed performance came in at a crucial time amid the long-term unavailability of backup point guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald. If Kelsey keeps on pulling games out, this could be the very year the Fever gets a ring, for the second time.
