In a game against the Phoenix Mercury, the team suffered a major blow, losing both Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald to season-long injury.
While reflecting on the season, the 30-year-old guard highlighted the moment and said, “It was demoralizing. When Sydney Colson tore her ACL, that was like the cap, and we ended up getting blown out by Phoenix. We went to the locker room, we were just all flooded with tears, and I was like ‘Oh my god’. I had never seen like that.”

She added that it was an overwhelming wave of emotion for the team, but at that moment, it changed the team’s entire dynamics. She mentioned that that was the worst moment for the team, seeing so many people go down, but on the flip side, they learned so much about what they could accomplish.

Kelsey Mitchell Uncertain About Future With Indiana Fever
On the podcast, KM pointed out that the situation is somewhat similar to the current CBA, where the stalled CBA is uniting players who are uncertain about their futures. But the 2025 MVP finalist is already a priority for the Fever team and could always return to the side.
While the player has already mentioned a condition that would affect her free agency decision, she is on the fence about signing with the Indiana franchise. “And so when we have these conversations about what we want to do, and what we do see, where we want to go potentially, it comes from a place of understanding,” Mitchell said in a recent interview.
The player spent eight seasons with the franchise, and the 2025 season was a peak point of her career. Indiana team fans would love to see her lifting a trophy in the Indiana Fever jersey only.
