The WNBA is entering its final series of the season with the Aces and Mercury looking to clinch the 2025 championship. Other teams are planning their future with players giving exit interviews and talking about the season. Indiana Fever’s star guard Kelsey Mitchell also talked about her season and future.
But her primary concern was the WNBA lockout. Former WNBPA vice president Kelsey Plum shared an alarming update on WNBA CBA negotiations, with players ready to sit out for the next season.
Kelsey Mitchell Talks About Her Future With The Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever’s 2025 season was like a Hollywood movie where five players on the floor overcame multiple adversities. Kelsey Mitchell was at the heart of this impressive run, and she also had a career-best season. But at the end of the season, she will be an unrestricted free agent, as per her supermax contract signed in 2024. It was obvious that everyone was curious about her future plans and the possibility of playing with the Fever team alongside ‘healthy’ Caitlin Clark.

“I hope we got a league. I hope that when it’s all said and done … we can have a season, period. For all the girls, every person that has aspirations to be in the league … that’s the start. Having a league is kind of big for us,” Mitchell said about the possibility of a lockdown.
Then she spoke about her family connection, specifically the loss of her father in 2024, which influenced her decision to stay with the Fever team.
“Losing a parent is a big shift. I take in consideration how my mom feels now, I take in consideration how my siblings and, you know, my immediate family, my dad’s mom is still alive, my grandmother, and so that’s big for me. Family is big for me. So I think talking to them and figuring out what’s best for us and for what I need internally is always going to be important,” the guard added.

As for the 2025 season, the former Michigan State player impressed everyone till she went out of Game 5 due to injury. Later, Mitchell reveals a scary “Rhabdomyolysis” condition that led to temporary paralysis and muscle shutdown.
Indiana Fever Prioritizes Re-Signing Kelsey Mitchell
After eight years with the Fever, the 2025 season was her most remarkable performance with the right pieces around her. Although she failed to win a championship, the 29-year-old will make the most of the opportunity with the Indy team.
Amber Cox discusses the situation and clarifies the direction. In the interview, she said, “When you look at our big three, I am going to sound like a broken record from last year. The priority will be Kelsey Mitchell, and making sure she remains in a Fever jersey.”
She lauded the star guard for her rise and consistency with the team, insisting that KM will be the focal point in the free agency. While KM’s family lives in Cincinnati, the Fever could use it to their advantage.
