The Los Angeles Sparks are in a do-or-die situation with the playoff qualification still up for grabs, as the Seattle Storm has a slight edge in the race. HC Lynne Roberts describes the team’s mindset during the crucial playoff push. But during a game against the Dallas Wings, the HC received concerning news of Kelsey Plum suffering an injury.
Though Lynne Roberts limited the guard’s involvement in the game, she might have to rethink her offensive gameplay with more disheartening news over Plum’s injury..
Los Angeles Sparks Receives Concerning Update On Kelsey Plum’s Injury
During her game plan for defense on Paige Bueckers, coach Lynner Roberts acknowledged that her star guard was playing through injury, so she shifted Sarah Ashlee on PB to give Plum some rest. The two-time champion star mentioned that every player deals with an injury close to the regular season finales.

“Everyone’s hurt physically, but I think at the end of the day, you got to keep pouring in to other people. Get outside of yourself and just lay it out on the court with everything you have. Everyone at this point in the season just feels like this. It is what it is, you just got to push through,” Plum told reporters.
But losing a player for a must-win game could be devastating news, and the Sparks are on the verge of a similar fate. As per the latest report the guard is questionable for the game against Phoenix Mercury on September 9.

The Mercury team is in great form at the moment and has already recorded a win over the Sparks. Playing against them without the former Aces guard will be a tough challenge for the LA team.
Kelsey Plum With Impressive Debut Season Win Los Angeles Sparks
Plum highlighted why she left the Las Vegas Aces during the 2025 offseason and delivered big time. Carrying the offensive load, she leads the team in assists (5.7 assists per game) and points (19.7 points per game). Above that, she was a clutch player for the Sparks. Her buzzer beaters, game winners, and many memorable clutch plays handed her side important wins in the season.
Kelsey Plum even made Sparks history, surpassing Jordin Canada’s assist record in her very first season. While the record-breaking player might miss a playoff this season, she had a great individual season.
It will be interesting to see whether Plum takes center stage despite her injury woes or how the Sparks react to her absence against a team like Mercury.
