Post-All-Star game, the Los Angeles Sparks have been on a strong run. Kelsey Plum’s offensive gameplay was an important reason for the team’s surge. Continuing her explosive form, the guard delivered another strong performance against the Phoenix Mercury. Her numbers put her level with Caitlin Clark’s record stat line in the league.
While Plum stated her intentions to leave the Las Vegas Aces and join the Sparks, she is clearly living up to her target at the moment.
Kelsey Plum Joins Caitlin Clark In Rare WNBA Record
The guard had been ‘real’ on the court, as Plum famously quoted, “no one feels bad for anyone,” while discussing the WNBA’s tight schedule. She is focusing on the task at hand as the Sparks are currently pushing for the final playoff spot.

The game against the Phoenix Mercury was important for the Sparks, setting the tone for the remaining schedule. The former University of Washington player pulled strings from the backcourt, dishing out four assists in the game and even scoring 20 points herself to put the side within touching distance of the Mercury’s tally.
With that, the 30-year-old star completed 713 points and 205 assists in the season for the Sparks so far. She also became only the second player to have 700+ points and 200+ assists in a season, with Caitlin Clark achieving the feat in her iconic rookie season. It is important to note that Clark broke Plum’s record only to become the NCAA leading scorer in 2024.
Apart from Plum, Cameron Brink also created history, levelling with Rebecaa Lobo in ‘stocks’ (steal + blocks) stats in just 26 games. The former Staford star now has 75 stocks and is the 14th fastest player to do so in the WNBA.

Despite historic nights for two players, Lynne Roberts’ team lost the game by an 84-92 score. The three-time champions now stand in ninth place with a 17-19 record and have just eight games in hand to overcome a 1.5-game deficit from the eighth-placed Seattle Storm.
As for Clark, there are a few requirements that she needs to complete before recovering from the injury.
Stephanie White Has A Few Requisites From Caitlin Clark For Her Return
Looking at the tough schedule ahead and the team’s current form, many expected the 2024 rookie to take the center stage against the Seattle team on August 26. With Clark practicing ahead of the game, rumors float around for her return. However, head coach White kept her out of rotation and gave out some requirements for the playmaker to take the court.
“I want to see her in practice, live in practice. I want to see her continue to work to not just build endurance, but to be able to handle contact 94 feet as it’s going to be in-game, and to be able to do that and sustain it from an endurance standpoint, and that’s going to take multiple practices to make sure that there’s no regression. As most of us know, when we get fatigued, we look different, and see how she plays through fatigue,” the Fever head coach said in the interview.
Though the star guard is on track to meet these expectations, fans’ wait will continue until the coach nods for Clark’s return.
