The Connecticut Sun sale saw two different sorts of reactions, completely opposite to each other. At one end, the Hartford Mayor called the WNBA decision incredibly disappointing after the team relocation blow, while the Houston fanbase is extremely happy to see the ‘Houston Comets’ returning to the region. Kevin Durant is one of those fans who showed his excitement in ‘subtle words’.
Durant moved to the Houston Rockets in the 2025-26 season and elevated the team’s offence. He reacted to having a WNBA franchise in Houston.

Kevin Durant Shares His Views On Houston Comets
After a season-long discussion, criticism and ‘delays’, the Connecticut Sun finally finds a new home following a record $300 million sale to the Fertitta Family. Although the new owners are yet to make an official announcement, the preparations at the back end have already started, hinting at a new and revamped Houston Comets’ return.
NBA megastar from the region, Kevin Durant, gave his reaction to the relocation of a WNBA franchise to Houston, as he said, “I’m so happy to see that. The Comets are a historic franchise and a historic brand that kick-started the WNBA. I’m glad they’re back, glad we honored the legends that played for the Comets earlier before the game started. Can’t wait to see WNBA basketball in Houston.”

Although there are different reactions from the fanbase and WNBA fraternity to the Houston Comets’ return, a few things are undeniable: they have impacted the league after the move and relocation.
Why Houston Comets’ Return Means More To WNBA?
While the relocation of the Sun franchise has some adverse effects on the WNBA, the return of the Comets would bring back the first-ever dynasty in the WNBA that won four championships in a row, a record that no team could break in 330 years of the league so far. During their championship runs, the side lost only 14 games in three seasons combined.
Another impact would be a true rivalry in Texas. The Dallas Wings enjoyed huge success as the lone WNBA franchise in the region. With Paige Bueckers on the roster, they had much support from fans, too. But now they will share the region with the Houston side, who would not only share the fanbase but could challenge the Wings’ dominance with new and hungry ownership.

Connecticut Sun tried to be the competitive side, but could win just two conference titles in 23 seasons and hardly challenged for the championship. With a legacy to live by, the new Comets side would look to be more aggressive on the front.
