Things are really getting out of hand at the moment. As the WNBA continues to stall the CBA negotiations, the agitation is swelling with each passing day. Recently, with the new contract offer coming in, the WNBA players criticized it for the house cuts.
It all started when the players wore the ‘Pay Us What You Owe Us’ t-shirts. Next up, it was Napheesa Collier who called out WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert for her alleged lack of accountability. Thus, now, with the situation spiralling into a complicated one, the league is facing some significant backlashes.
So much so that new labor union billboards, too, mocked the WNBA.

Currently, the conflict regarding the CBA deal is no longer an internal matter. With global icons like Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark commenting on the matter, the entire world is now aware.
In a recent turn of events, the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, parked a truck outside the NBA store. Immediately, it caught the eyes of the passersby as the Dear Santa billboard read, “Please tell Cathy Engelbert & Adam Silver we want a WNBA season! Pay the Players.”
The driver, who worked for the Laborers Local Union 1010, LIUNA, displayed a sign that read, “Pay equity is not optional. It is earned. It is deserved. It is overdue.”

Certainly, none of these are encouraging signs for the league. Till now, the players have demanded a league revenue share of roughly 30%. Unfortunately, the league has been offering just 15% till now. And now, to make matters worse, the WNBPA has approved a strike.
WNBPA Approves Strike Amidst CBA Tensions
The CBA deal has been pushed back twice at the moment. Moreover, with no positive signs forthcoming, the WNBPA has recently opted for the ultimate. According to recent reports, the players’ organization has authorized a strike whenever required.
“The players have spoken. Through a decisive vote with historic participation, our membership has authorised the WNBPA’s (seven-member) Executive Committee to call a strike when necessary. The players’ decision is an unavoidable response to the state of negotiations with the WNBA and its teams,” said the WNBPA.
The WNBPA announced Thursday that its members have voted overwhelmingly to authorize calling a strike "when necessary" during the ongoing negotiations between the players association and the WNBA on a new collective bargaining agreement.
