Sometimes a player’s dominance just sneaks up on you, and that’s exactly what Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon is talking about when it comes to A’ja Wilson. After the Aces’ solid win over the Washington Mystics on Friday, Hammon didn’t hold back in making her case for why Wilson should snag the 2025 WNBA MVP award.
The Aces fought their own battle this season, and honestly, with the numbers she’s putting up all through it, it’s hard to argue against it. Sitting at a perfect third seed in the league, Wilson is giving away all the good reasons to endorse her.
Coach Hammon Endorses A’ja Wilson For 2025 WNBA MVP Nod
During the game, the South Carolina-born star clocked great numbers. And right after a good game, Hammon got real during the post-game presser. The proud head coach gave her words on how she thinks the superstar center makes a great case for 2025 WNBA MVP Award.

“Anytime a media person has to ask a question, ‘who’s as good as A’ja Wilson,’ that’s where you start with the conversation, that’s your answer. That’s your answer. She’s top three in every major statistical category, but most importantly, efficiency. She’s number one in efficiency. And to me, people need to do that kind of homework,” she said.

However, not one to take a word against her players, Hammon urged folks to “do that kind of homework” because Wilson’s impact is off the charts.

“I know, at times I can look down at the stat sheet and I’m like, ‘oh s***, she had 36 or 34?’ Like, you don’t even notice because it’s become so normal. I told her that in front of the group the other day, I don’t shout out her numbers in front of the group very often, but like, I don’t want it to, I don’t want her to think I’m missing her. And I don’t want the world to miss her because she’s here, she’s right now, she’s in the prime and she is killing it. And, I don’t know, like I said, if she’s the conversation starter, she is the conversation,” the coach added.
Additionally, she even shared a funny moment about glancing at the stat sheet and being shocked by Wilson’s 36 or 34 points. In that Mystics game, Wilson was a beast, dropping 36 points on 14-of-22 shooting, including 1-of-2 from three and 7-of-8 from the line.
A’ja Wilson Had An Impressive State Line
While the team head coach had her word for MVP endorsement, Wilson was on a whole new level in the game. She grabbed 13 rebounds, dished one assist, and added two steals and two blocks in 33 minutes. The Aces started slow, down 26-19 after the first quarter, but flipped the script with a 25-13 second quarter to lead at halftime.

Although this win pushed the Aces to 24-14, sitting second in the Western Conference, six games back from the Minnesota Lynx. They’re on a hot 10-game streak, and next up is the Chicago Sky on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
Wilson’s been the heart of it all this season, and Hammon’s praise feels spot-on. In addition to racking up points, she’s efficient, consistent, and making her team better every night.
