The hype is getting real surrounding the WNBA. At one point, the possibilities of a work stoppage were looking very high. But as soon as the new CBA was signed, things began to ease out. All the players looked excited, and now, as the free agency is underway, there have been some blockbuster trades.
For example, following Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream signing, there was yet another big-name trade. After 12 long seasons, Nneka Ogwumike returned to the Los Angeles Sparks. And if this wasn’t enough excitement, the WNBA free agency is promising a lot more. However, while fans will be looking forward to watching the NCAA talents make it big, Lauren Betts highlighted the mental aspect of the game.

Lauren Betts Stresses On How WNBA Stars Are ‘Humans’
Betts is already a big name in the WNBA. Following her stellar performance with the UCLA Bruins, the 22-year-old is touted as the number one overall draft pick. However, despite all the outer glitz and glamor, there seems to be a lot going on than what meets the eye. Back in March, the Bruins star opened up about the mental aspect of the game.
“I feel like it speaks to just how I always try to say athletes are way more than just – we don’t just dribble the basketball. We’re people at the end of the day. And I feel like in that moment, my teammates, they weren’t looking at me as their teammate that had gone missing — they care about their friends,” Betts told ‘Mirror US Sports.

She further pointed out that one of the biggest virtues of being with a great setup is the support you get. When teammates become friends and stand up to protect your back, life automatically gets easier. And that is why Betts tries to be supportive towards her friends, irrespective of the situation and conditions.

Meanwhile, as the 6-foot-7 star is all set to take her big leap, she cannot be happier about the new CBA.
Lauren Betts Doubles Down On The Historic CBA

The 22-year-old has received some big honors. Former US President Barack Obama recently extended his support to the Bruins star. Thankfully, as she is about to step into the spotlight, one of her biggest points of interest is the CBA. As the players will be getting paid much more than before, the Bruins star expressed her gratitude towards the athletes who fought tirelessly for the historic CBA becoming a reality.
“Firstly, just very grateful for all the people that put in so much work to create amazing opportunities for people like Kiki and I going into the draft. I mean, we don’t take that for granted, and they’re setting the stage for people like us to have amazing opportunities and to set ourselves up for life,” Betts said.
Surely, with a lot coming up, fans cannot wait for the WNBA season to start.
