Caitlin Clark may not enjoy overwhelming support from WNBA veterans, but her loyal fans never miss a chance to celebrate her talent. Recently, league legend Lauren Jackson called the Fever guard a “never-seen-before talent,” a remark that many interpreted as a subtle dig at her former teammate, Sue Bird.
While the two-time champion couldn’t congratulate the guard when the Storm announced a bronze statue for Bird, nor was she present for Sue Bird’s statue unveiling ceremony, she gave the Seattle guard flowers during her appearance on the Podcast. And even cleared the air about her comments about Clark.
Lauren Jackson Makes Big Statement About Caitlin Clark
The three-time league MVP was Sue Bird’s teammate for 11 seasons and won two league titles with her. The player won multiple accolades in her career, but her prime seasons with the Seattle franchise made an immediate mark on the league. While the UConn guard was a huge part of her success, her praise for CC was taken as a ‘negative remark’ towards Bird.

In an interview in June, the Australian star said that she never saw a player like Clark and singled her out with a wish to play with her. Talking to “A Touch More” Podcast, she cleared her stance.
“You are completely different players to her. Also, too, she’s got a lot of development and growth to come. But I feel like you are the consummate professional. I think the way you are able to bring a team together and make a team hum… You’re the player that I actually got to play with and I would wish I could play with,” Jackson told Sue Bird.
The Seattle Storm guard smiled and mentioned that she understood her side and the situation in which she answered the question.

“I love Caitlin Clark…I love watching her I’m not sure I would’ve loved playing with her. Pass me the ball I’m open.”
Sue: “I averaged like 5 assists she averages like 8.”
“I don’t know I feel like she’d take a three instead.” pic.twitter.com/KoEjXimyMO
The seven-time All-Star also said that even though she is impressed with Caitlin Clark, she is confused whether the Fever guard would pass her the ball or shoot a three-pointer. Hence, she is not sure whether she would play alongside the 23-year-old star.
While everyone laughed at her comments, Sue Bird reminded her that the former Iowa star averages more assists than she does.
Caitlin Clark Closing In On Her Return
On the court, though, the 2024 rookie is still out of action, missing her 13th consecutive game due to a groin injury. While many waited for an update on her rehab progress, an IndyStar reporter provided a positive update with video showing the guard in a practice session.
The franchise currently stands eighth in the league standings, and the playmaker’s return will boost its chances to qualify for the playoffs.
