The WNBA’s recent boom is garnering some exciting attention towards the league. Despite the current scenarios prompting names like Sophie Cunningham to issue a grim outlook for the 2026 season, the talks about the W are not subsiding anytime soon.
Following a stellar mid-season comeback, it was the Las Vegas Aces who stole the show. And as the likes of A’ja Wilson and co. won the finals 4-0, several wild theories were flung around.
One among them came from Patrick Beverly. He pointed out how the Aces could beat NBA teams. Now, while such a comment initially made ripples, the latest take on the matter came from NBA star Lonzo Ball.

Lonzo Ball Drops Bombshell On The Ongoing WNBA-NBA Comparison
Ball recently appeared in an episode of the ‘Ball in the Family’ podcast. While the Cleveland Cavaliers star was asked by Michael Porter Jr. about Beverley’s comments, Ball laughed it off immediately. He instantly pointed out how he would beat a WNBA team while he was in his ninth grade.
“I mean this as respectfully as possible, but ninth-grade Lonzo Ball in the WNBA is going crazy. So, I would say after ninth grade, no. But before that… Cuz look, in ninth grade, I’m over six feet and I’m dunking,” Ball said.

Ball further highlighted how he had a towering presence of 6ft. Thus, when he came in hard at the WNBA girls, according to Ball, they would not stand a chance. In fact, Ball felt that he would look like Michael Jordan playing in the WNBA.
And that was not all. Michael Porter Jr., too, chimed in, saying that he would have dominated the WNBA players while in 8th grade. He also had some strong justifications to back his claims.
Michael Porter Jr. Agrees To Lonzo Ball’s 9th Grader Claims
While listening to Ball’s analysis, Porter Jr. pointed out how he would have done the same in eighth grade. And as concrete proof, the Nets forward explained how he used to play with his sisters, who trained at the University of Missouri.
While Ball played on the scout team, it also featured some notable players, including Cunningham. Yet, Porter Jr. had quite a crazy experience dominating the lot.
“They had a few WNBA players on their team like, Sophie Cunningham and a couple others. I was in the 7th or 8th grade going crazy. So, I have real life experience. It’s just a difference and I wish this would stop being a conversation because it should be common sense. I appreciate common sense. I feel sometimes that’s lost a little bit,” said Porter Jr.
Thus, it is evident that these comments put further fuel to the WNBA-NBA comparisons. Now, fans will be eager to see how things pan out in the future.
