The NBA’s recent infamous arrests over spot-fixing allegations shook the world. Senior analyst Stephen A. Smith issued an open warning to the WNBA regarding potential scrutiny from Donald Trump amid the NBA-FBI Drama. Although that didn’t happen, there were some clouds over the league due to betting-related issues. Wings’ Maddie Siegrist addressed the same in her recent exclusive interview.
Entering her fourth season, the forward has experienced both the positives and negatives of sports betting, making it a double-edged sword, and has even found a solution to overcome its negative aspects.

Maddie Siegrist Talks About Sports Betting
Finding a positive side to a topic like betting might feel odd, but the Wings’ forward didn’t mean to support the idea. She pointed out that the WNBA benefits from sports betting, whether or not athletes, teams, or fans like the process. The 25-year-old claimed that it’s happening in every sport.
As per the former Villanova player, sports betting means more people are watching the games, which would impact the popularity and media deals, too. However, there is a negative aspect to this betting, and Sigrist had a solution for it. “Any pro athlete will kind of give you the same [story]: These are people betting from their house that you’re going to go under [a projected stat total] or your team’s going to win. With the world of social media, just how much hate people get is truly amazing,” the player told the media.

Talking about her, in particular, she added, “I’m not a super controversial player. I don’t have the spotlight like some of my other teammates. But if you have a bad game or a good game, you can get anywhere from 50 to 100 [direct messages] or comments on your social media that are crazy.”

Her simple solution to all the negativity is to avoid social media completely during the season. This would help her to avoid the noise and focus on the game. In 2025, the star showed immense growth playing alongside Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale, but only time will tell whether the association will continue.
Maddie Siegrist Could Leave Dallas Wings
It’s not that the franchise wishes to let go of their ‘improved’ player or the 2023 draft pick wants to leave the organization, but it’s what the situation proposes. The Wings’ GM has warned the franchise about the possibility of losing players in the expansion draft, and the current status suggests the team might lose a forward.

Even though the team will have another top pick coming in, they will look to have their best players available for the upcoming season to form a well-rounded side. Considering Siegrist’s impact on the games and her experience, anyone would likely offer her protection from the draft pick. However, other rookies showed great potential; moreover, they are younger and faster, which suits the brand of Bueckers’ game.
There is no doubt that PB and Maddie Siegrist have close relations, but so did DiJonai and NaLyssa Smith, whom the Wings’ front office let go midway through the season.
