Following the end of the previous season, the excitement was high about the upcoming free agency and the 2026 WNBA draft. Unfortunately, with the CBA fiasco taking a complicated turn, things have looked extremely murky. As a result, there is no update on when the WNBA draft will take place.
Such a development is particularly depressing considering how stacked the lineup is this year. With the likes of Azzi Fudd touted to steal the limelight, there are a few more names that are raising the stakes at the moment. One such star, Richmond’s Maggie Doogan, had some positive things to say when speaking about his coach.

Maggie Doogan Makes A Strong Case For WNBA Draft As Per Her Coach
Doogan has been dropping some impressive performances this season. And in what was yet another normal day of business for her, the Richmond star clinched a 48-point game against Davidson. As the game turned out to be an overly competitive one, it was the 6’2” senior who ensured that her team walked away with the triple overtime victory.
En route to her stellar show, the star athlete recorded the highest points in a single game for Richmond as well as for the Atlantic-10. And that’s not all. Such a display was also the season’s highest in the NCAA Division I women’s basketball. Naturally, looking at the impeccable surge, head coach Aaron Roussell looked confident about Doogan’s career beyond college.
“I know for sure that she’s going to be a WNBA draft choice. My side job right now is her agent to handle the calls. I bet I’ve talked with maybe every WNBA franchise to be honest with you, at least close to it,” said Roussell to ‘12 On Your Side.’

He further crowned the 21-year-old as one of the best players in A-10 history. Now, this might sound like a lot, but a glance at her performance will make the comparison look justified. Back on February 14th, the Broomall-born scored 26 points to help Richmond beat Davidson and clinch their 11th consecutive victory.
In the process, the Richmond star also completed 2000 career points. This was a feat so rare that only three athletes have been able to achieve this in all of the program’s history.
Meanwhile, unfazed by her personal accolades, Doogan is looking towards bigger goals.
Maggie Doogan Eyes Atlantic-10 Title

The noise around the Spiders’ senior star is rising. But all of that doesn’t seem to bother her. Back in 2024, the Spiders won the Atlantic-10 title when the 21-year-old was a sophomore. Now, as a senior player, she wants to take the onus on herself and gift her team a signing-off present.
“You know, my last A-10 tournament, my last chance to win the championship. Like it’s all kind of hitting me at once of, you know, this is my last, so I’m just really trying to take in everything,” said Doogan.
Richmond has already qualified for the quarterfinals. They are now awaiting to take on the winner of Game 6. Scheduled for a 7:30 pm start at Henrico’s Sports and Events Centre this Friday, Doogan will look to ensure that her dream remains firm.
