The Los Angeles Sparks are out of the 2025 WNBA playoffs. Star forward Dearica Hamby stayed positive despite the setback of entering the season’s final game, and now they will have more great news for the upcoming season.
As confirmed by the Sparks’ front office, the team now has its state-of-the-art training facility ready for the upcoming season. Part-owner Magic Johnson reacted to the news by resharing the post.
Magic Johnson Reacts To Los Angeles Sparks’ New Training Facility
The Los Angeles Sparks underwent multiple ownerships, with the Buss family selling the team to Paula Madison in 2007, and then the Sparks LA Sports LLC in 2014. While the new ownership won just one championship (2016), they remained consistent in nurturing talent and providing support to the stars.

Management has extended its support by adding a state-of-the-art training facility for its players. The franchise recently shared the news on social media. Magic Johnson, former Los Angeles Lakers superstar and part-owner of the Los Angeles Sparks, quickly reacted to the announcement and congratulated the board for its decision.
“I’m excited about the new LA Sparks state-of-the-art practice facility which will be the best in all of the WNBA! I want to congratulate my Sparks partner and new Lakers Owner Mark Walter, as well as my business partner Eric Holoman, for making this dream facility come to fruition!” Johnson wrote in his post.

The planned training facility will be in El Segundo. According to the plans and announcement, it will cost around $150 million and will be ready before the 2027 season. The five-time NBA Champion played a key role in keeping the franchise in LA, and his excitement hints at big plans for the Sparks.
Los Angeles Sparks’ Playoff Dream Falls Short
The 2025 season was fascinating for the three-time champions. Despite a slow start, they raced to the top 10 in the standings with a strong second-half performance led by Kelsey Plum, Dearica Hamby, and Azura Stevens. Also, Rickea Jackson’s game winners turned the tables for the franchise as the team was constantly in the hunt for the top-eight position. Coach Lynne Roberts shared the Los Angeles Sparks’ mindset amid a crucial playoff push.
But a one-point loss against the Indiana Fever and tough matchups against the Atlanta Dream and Las Vegas Aces ended their chance to qualify for the playoffs. The team finished the season, ninth in the standings with a 21-23 record, two games behind the eight-seed Golden State Valkyries.
With a new training facility and maybe a new and healthy roster, the Los Angeles Sparks will look to push for the playoffs after five years of drought.
