Illinois officials completed their investigation and put forward the report, confirming the identification of both victims killed in a car accident. One of which was former WNBA player Sophie Brunner’s 61-year-old mother, while the other victim was Ronaldo Ico-Choc.
As per the press meeting held, Stephenson County Sheriff Steve Stovall provided the updates and even mentioned that Ico-choc was an illegal immigrant.
Police Provide Update On Sophie Brunner’s Mother’s Death
Darcy Connolly-Brunner, the name of the victim, was found dead following a car accident on Illinois Route 26. A man identified as a 30-year-old offender, Ico-Choc, hit the Connolly-Brunners’ Ford Edge. Injury to her head took her life, while Ico-Choc also died on the spot.
“One of the lives was someone I knew well, Darcy Connolly-Brunner. Darcy was more than just a member of the community; she was a friend. She was a kind and giving person who cared deeply for her family and friends,” Sheriff Stovall said in a press meet.

He also added that the 30-year-old man was an illegal immigrant and alcohol played a role in the double-fatal crash. Answering the press, Sheriff Stovall also said that Ico-Choc had a criminal history and his license was revoked.
Stephenson County court records show Ico-Choc was charged in 2023 with aggravated DUI with a license suspended or revoked. Phoenix Mercury and San Antonio Stars player Brunner has yet to comment on her mother’s death.

A Look At Sophie Brunner’s WNBA Career
Born and raised in Illinois, the 29-year-old star played for Arizona State in college and was a member of the Pac-12 First Team. The forward went undrafted in the 2017 WNBA draft and signed a training camp contract with the Phoenix Mercury in the same season. The side traded her to the San Antonio Stars.
